Here is a short 'PROFILE' of Shihan A.M.SHAJAHAN Founder President of
the Institution:

Born in 1955, Shihan A.M.Shajahan was introduced to the art of Karate-
do at the tender age of 7. He went head over heals in pursuing it
giving back seat to conventional education. He underwent training
under several masters. By the age of 18, he was able to start a karate
dojo to train others in the art. His training methods were far beyond
anyone’s imagination. On several occasions he had demonstrated
breaking iron rod with a chop of his fist. He was an excellent Master
and there was no dearth of students to join his dojo.

But his heart was set on going to Japan, the land of martial-arts to
get more training under famous masters. In 1983, he was invited to
Japan to train under Grandmaster Soke Teruo Hayashi, Chief of the
Referee Council of World Union of Karate-do Organisations, Osaka.
Finding his enthusiasm and performance, Grandmaster took him under his
direct training. He completed all schedules of the rigorous training
ahead of time and was able to obtain 4th Dan Black Belt and Judge’s
degree at the age of 29 which was a record. He was the only Indian
trained and graduated in Japan under the Grandmaster Soke Teruo
Hayashi.

Grandmaster also authorized him to head the Indian branch of the
Japan Karate-do Hayashi-ha Shitoryu-kai of India as Technical Director
and Chief Examiner. In 1988, Shihan Shajahan organized All India Black
Belt Open Karate Tournament in Chennai under the Presidentship of
Grandmaster Soke Teruo Hayashi. Impressed by the well organized world
class tournament, Grandmaster awarded Shajahan the title
‘Shihan’ (meaning Chief) and also presented him with 5th degree black
belt. Shajahan was the first Indian to earn the rare honour as Shihan
in the martial art of Karate-do.

In 1991, Shihan A.M.Shajahan attended the World Hayashi-ha Karate
Tournment held in Rome (Italy) on invitation. He was adjudged as the
Best Referee of the Tournament and was awarded a gold-medal for the
performance.

In the same year students from Cambridge University, London came to
Chennai to train under him. On their feed-back, Cambridge University
offered a standing invitation to him to take classes for their
students.

He had trained Russian students also from whom he received several
invitations to visit Russia to train university students. His heart
however is in India and in training Indian students. He has so far
trained several hundred of students. Once some one is a student of
Shihan Shajahan, he will ever be a student of him in his heart. No
other Master can over-write on the impression.

In spite of his position, he is fond of training children just
initiated to the art. He is a living example to the maxim ‘I am in my
Master’s shadow and I am my Master’s shadow’.
