I think the haxelogo is very strong. I can't remember what I saw, but it clarified that haxelogo was even ahead of trends, sometimes I see tele copying the feel of internet experiments and you know that the experiments have influenced trends/fashions etc... well it was something like that, that made me realize haxe logo was on trend, maybe that is not ideal long term but good now.
Flash for instance have always had a strong red and ruby's logo has also been positive for it's popularity, I think the bold splash of orange colour is very positive especially for creative industries, the change of logo you refer to above is because the first logo contrast was slightly lost and the newer logo is sharper. I think current haxe logo is actually a huge asset and I commend the designer whoever they are.
The current haxe site needs some conceptual changes but haxe is always on the move so it's tricky to snapshot it into a really useful digestible form, but it is something I think users are considering, and sites like
haxenme.org have focused on a viewpoint and added very positively I urge you to do similar :).
