Hi,

Long time to talk here, just a small update : the Haxe Foundation is
taking shape and should be announced pretty soon.

We've been taking all of your remarks and discussions into account,
although we also had to simplify a few things in order to clarify the
Foundation presentation.

Important note : because there's no foundation system in France and
because the services/support provided by the Foundation is a commercial
one, the Haxe Foundation will be created as a classic company and
managed by myself. That does not change its goals, and we will still
have an Advisory Board to favor discussions.

More detailed infos will be posted soon publicly,

Best,
Nicolas

There is an equivalent of foundation but you must start with a non profit, and when you reach a certain "size" in term of number of members and budget (see "Reconnaissance d'utilité publique d'une association")
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fondation_(institution)

Why not go with a non profit organization?

Yes, that's quite complex to setup and provides no advantages unless
you're recognized as "public interest", which requires many things (3
years old, 200 members, etc.)

More generally, the services we offer as part of the foundation are
classified as commercial in France (I got confirmation from my
accountant), so subject to taxes and everything else. Based on that, non
profit does not offer much advantages, and I'm not familiar with it either.

The spirit and the action of the Haxe Foundation remains exactly the
same that what was discussed before, except that I'm allowed to take
decisions by myself which is important if we want to move forward.

Best,
Nicolas

Whatever works best for you. At the current stage, I think the most important part is to get something up.

Also in light of the pointed out lack of a commercial player backing Haxe, I think not branding the foundation as non-profit might work towards compensating this perceived deficit. Hopefully ;)

Regards,
Juraj
