For now, until final version comes out, we have to build it from sources: http://haxe.org/manual/haxe3#build_from_sources

The official line is "install from source, it's not hard"... hopefully we'll get some apt-get magic soon.

In the mean time, if you're on Ubuntu, I made one line install script :)
bash <(curl -s https://raw.github.com/jasononeil/OneLineHaxe/master/scripts/linux-ubuntu-1204-haxe3.sh)

You will need curl installed first (apt-get install curl)

If you'd like to use binaries, you can use the nightlies for it. http://builds.haxer.be/haxe/linux32/ for linux32 and http://hxbuilds.s3.amazonaws.com/list.html for linux32/64

I guess we can upload the r6706 builds and link them on the download page.

I think that'd be nice!

Done: http://haxe.org/download

Your server didn't have r6706, so I used r6704 which should be fine.

That link leads to BernardV's invalid/broken builds. I've removed them and put his automated build script on hold now.

The correct urls (for my builds) are:

Haxe:
Linux32   : http://haxer.be/builds/linux32/?C=M;O=D
Windows : http://haxer.be/builds/windows/?C=M;O=D

Neko:
Linux32   : http://haxer.be/buildsneko/linux32/?C=M;O=D
Windows : http://haxer.be/buildsneko/windows/?C=M;O=D

These are also the links that are in the haxe.org wiki btw.

Best,

Jan

Is it possible (and how can i do it) to use "haxe2 + old haxelib" and "haxe3 + new haxelib" on the same machine on linux?

I made it running haxe2 & haxe3 on the same machine in linux. Use this this guide at your own risk ;) (it works for me)

1. Install haxe2 & neko 1.8
2. Check "ln -s /usr/lib | grep neko" and make sure, all entries are symlinks to files in /usr/lib/neko/ (if not, copy binaries to /usr/lib/neko/ and make symlinks to them)
3. Check "ln -s /usr/bin | grep neko" and make sure, all entries are symlinks to files in /usr/lib/neko/ (if not, copy binaries to /usr/lib/neko/ and make symlinks to them)
4. Check "ln -s /usr/bin | grep haxe" and make sure, all entries are symlinks to files in /usr/lib/haxe/ (if not, copy binaries to /usr/lib/haxe/ and make symlinks to them)
5. Now create /home/username/haxe and move /usr/lib/haxe and /usr/lib/neko to /home/username/haxe/haxe2 and ~/haxe/neko2 respectively
6. Repeat 1-4 for haxe3 & neko 2.0
7. Move /usr/lib/haxe and /usr/lib/neko to /home/username/haxe/haxe3 and /home/username/haxe/neko3 respectively
8. Create /home/username/haxe/hxset file with following content:
#!/bin/bash
rm /usr/lib/haxe
rm /usr/lib/neko
ln -s /home/username/haxe/haxe$1 /usr/lib/haxe
ln -s /home/username/haxe/neko$1 /usr/lib/neko
echo -n "/home/username/haxe/haxe$1/lib" > /home/alex/.haxelib
9. run "$ chmod +x /home/username/haxe/hxset"
10. copy /home/username/haxe hxset to /usr/bin

Now you can switch between haxe2 and haxe3 with
$ sudo hxset 2
$ sudo hxset 3
Both have separate haxe libs
