Apologies since this may be the wrong place to say such a thing, but its an idea I've had for a while.

Considering most of the Haxe compiler would be working on some kind of token tree, would it be possible to build a better and faster AS3 compiler? Many of us have heaps of AS3 code and porting them to Haxe would take time. Since Haxe already supports all of the flash features this would not be a problem (primitives, AS2/AS3 classes, memory, etc).

Also, the Haxe language is very similar to AS3 with a few differences/improvements. Could it be possible to build such a compiler? I think it would be very popular, like a drop-in replacement to Adobe Flex compiler which is sloooow and horrible. MTASC did this for AS2 and its a very good idea.

Anything is possible, but who would waste that time?
