Dynamic lighting in HaxeFlixel

Im trying to create lighting where the surroundings are slightly darker than the player and the lamps.

How would I go about doing this?

it is a platformer.

How about masking? You can make a very transparent black map with a circular area for the player.

Have you seen the DynamicShadows demo (only available on the dev branch right now though)?

Then how would I make stationary lights if the surroundings cover up the other stationary lights in the map?
