I guess it's up to me to start the ball rolling, so here goes.

I saw my first Chick tract when I was in Jr. High back in the early
70's. I was facinated with them, but I'm not sure just why. I found
the artwork to be a bit on the creep side, but I just couldn't put it
down. Soon I was searching them out around school. Since my school was
in Alabama (the "buckle" on the Bible Belt) I didn't have to look very
hard. They were the number one tool used to evangelize teenagers at
that time in my hometown. Over the years I sort of lost track (or
should I say "tract"?) of these little gems, but recently had my
interest rekindled. This was due mainly to working in a state maximum
security prison and needing an inexpensive way to evangelize inmates.
Let me tell you, inmates LOVE Chick tracts! Since the population of my
prison is about 75% black, I mainly purchase the newer tracts
featuring black characters. I only wish Jack would do some new tracts
on white supremacy groups (Aryan Brotherhood, Southern Brotherhood,
etc). Most of those inmates are steeped in the trappings of
Christianity, but are on the warped side due to their racial
intolerance. I've had good responce to "Gomez Is Coming", "Mad
Machine", "The Peace Maker", and other tracts that feature prison
scenes. By the way - in spite of living in the South, though we have a
great number of Christian or Bible stores around, only ONE carries
Chick tracts now.

Anyway, let me hear you sound off concerning Chick tracts. I hope this
will grow into a group of folks who are interested in trading tracts,
trading stories about tracts, and a way to spread information on the
tracts in general.

Wow. I thought I was the only person fascinated by these twisted
little comics.

I hope we can talk about the "Crusaders" comics, too. Those are the
full-color comic-book-sized adventures of two super-evangelists who
travel the world to defeat Satan. There were also produced by Jack T.
Chick. One issue is dedicated to the satanic rituals that are used to
"bless" EVERY SINGLE RECORDING SESSION for rock music. It's killer
stuff, especially for someone who's produced rock music, but somehow
never got invited to the satanic orgies.

I look forward to this list.

Welcome aboard, Rudy! It's an honor to have a nationally known member
of the
media like yourself amongst us. Please add links to your various
websites to your next post so all may enjoy the work of Mr. Panucci.

Of course we can. There's no "brown stain moderating" going on here.
Anything related to Jack T. Chick is open for discussion here (tracts,
comics, Alberto, Chaplain Dann, etc).

Well, maybe they just didn't want to let you in on the fun (haw-haw!).
Seriously though, I don't think there are too many people that think
Chick would be called "accurate" in his research of most topics
covered in his publications. I look at it like I percieve "The
DeVinyls" (sp?), the Aussie duo from the 80's and 90's.
I really like SOME of their work, but most of it seems like pure
musical junk to me.
The stuff I don't like doesn't keep me from appreciating the good
stuff.

I've found that about 10% of Chick tracts are based on good doctrine,
and are useful in evangelizing. Most of them are so far out that they
actually send folks running in the opposited direction. It's like
being married to a fat girl who's got a pretty face - you take the
good with the bad (haw-haw!).

We look foward to your future contributions and I hope you'll let
folks know about the list.

I also encountered these tracts first in Alabama, while going to
Auburn University in the mid 1980s. I didn't realize there were so
many other titles. I only saw THIS WAS YOUR LIFE and HOLOCAUST. If I
had known about the others, I would have tried to collect them back
then and saved a PILE of money!

My other regret isn't what I did or didn't do, but that Chick himself
never did a Crusader comic on Rebecca Brown. I would have loved to see
all the werewolves, demons, and vampires taking on Tim and Jim. That
would have been like having SCOOBY DOO meet THE X-FILES meet ARCHIE!
Oh well, maybe we'll see those issues scattered across the coffee
tables in our heavenly mansions.

Viva La Chick!

Hmmm. My wife graduated from Auburn in the mid 80's. I know you're as
good as the next guy - I just hope that I wasn't the NEXT GUY!

I guess there would have to be TWO comics on Dr. Brown. The first one
would be like you said, and the second one would be all about why Jack
doesn't carry her books anymore and why he won't even mention her
name.

Well, she is controversial. But they officially are on good terms with one another. He prayed about whether he should publish her third book (after she married Yoder, a rather flakey fellow with a record for fraud) and the Lord said no. She made Chick a lot of money, but he passed and let her go on to the next guy who made a mint off her instead. In fact, he even gave them the film to her other books. So Brown is very complimentary on Chick and Chick doesn't complain about Brown either.

In fact, Chick doesn't complain about any Christians except those who go over to the dark side (Rome). Haw-haw!
