Stopped by one of the two (Count 'em - TWO) comic book stores in town
and asked about Crusaders and such. A man (the owner?) and two
twentysomething looking ladies responded to my question with the
typical "deer in the headlights" look. GOLLYBOBHOWDY! I thought with
the relatively small number of Chick comics that have been sold over
the years, they would be a staple (no pun intended) in a comic book
store.

How's about those of you not lucky? enough to live near Gadsden, AL
fill us in on the availability of Chick comics (Crusaders, etc) in
YOUR neck of the woods?

I never find them at the comic book stores, but I always visit
Chistian book stores whenever traveling. The smaller the town, the
better. But the big towns can have them too. Once I was in Berkely
California with the first Chick book author, Bob Fowler, and we saw a
hole in the wall Christian bookstore. I said, "hey, let's see if they
have any Chick tracts!" He said it was the San Francisco area, they
would never carry such a thing, and if they ever did, all the good
ones would be long gone because the area was infested with comic book
experts. I dragged him inside anyway and whadayaknow? There was a big
pile of classic out of print tracts for sale for 14 cents each! I
snagged them all! (Greedy me!) The only downside was they had a hole
punch in the corner of each tract and were on a giant key chain ring,
but that only added to the charm as far as I was concerned. The moral?
NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING about your chances of finding tracts. They turn
up in the most unlikely places!
