Do 'progressive' Americans have a shadow they are unaware of? Does America itself have such a shadow?

GOH,

If the unexamined life is not worth living, can we function in the civic realm of the broader world before we know ourselves. Or do we have to know ourselves first?

Is America a shining city on a hill?

Are Democrats and others to the Left of the political spectrum 'the good guys'.

Is either of these actually possible?

Are Americans and Democrats 'human'?

Are they subject to the same 'rules', the same scrutiny as, say, Republicans and Russians?

Do Americans and Democrats have a 'shadow'?

"In analytical psychology, the shadow  is an unconscious aspect of the personality that does not correspond with the ego ideal, leading the ego to resist and project the shadow. In short, the shadow is the self's emotional blind spot, projected (as archetypesormetaphoral sense-image complexespersonified within the collective unconscious); e.g., trickster".

"Jung stated the shadow to be the unknown dark side of the personality.[19] According to Jung, the shadow, in being instinctive and irrational, is prone to psychological projection, in which a perceived personal inferiority is recognized as a perceived moral deficiency in someone else. Jung writes that, if these projections remain hidden, "the projection-making factor (the Shadow archetype) then has a free hand and can realize its object—if it has one—or bring about some other situation characteristic of its power".[20] These projections insulate and delude individuals by acting as a constantly thickening veil of illusion between the ego and the real world".

What do humans, including Americans and Democrats, usually do with their dark side?  Do they act like other humans and see it only in their adversaries and never in themselves?

Best,

Jim
