For whatever reason after a few days of not using EOS utility the software will not recognize my camera even if windows 10 does, I have turned off WiFi/NFC and connected it via usb but EOS utility does nothing with it. When I use EOS Utility 3 it just says "Connect an EOS camera." despite it already being connected. When I have used EOS utility 2 the software says "Camera is not recognized" when I launch the software and then connect the camera it immediately closes and gives that message as well.

I'm running the most recent version of Windows 10. The only way I can get the utility to start at all is to do it manually, at which point I get the screen with the "Connect an EOS camera." message. At this point both cameras, 6D Mark II and M50, show the connection icon on the menu screen.

Except for some transisition problems from V2 to V3 for my older 40D, I've been running the utility software for 10 years without any problems. Although becaise of all the devices I have it's been a long time since the utility woud autolaunch, but I've always been able to get it to work manually.

I have the new EOS R6 mark II. I also installed the EOS utility from Canon's website ( w3.15.20.4, dated 4 jul 2022).
When I connect the camera via USB the utility starts but finally responds with "camera is not recognized". I tried several USB/USB-c cables.
For comparison I checked whether the utility (v3) is working for my 5D mark III, and it does.
I also tried the utility via wifi connect. Initially it starts and there seems to be a connection, but then it says again "camera is not recognized".
While connected via USB my computer explorer seems the camera as a drive and I can see the contents of the SD-card. But my computer does not recognize the camera via the EOS utility.
Could it be that I need a newer version of the utility, assuming this very new Canon model might not be included yet in the definitions of the utility?
After details: I have a DELL XPS13, Windows 11,

Thanks, that did the trick!
Since the Canon website didn't list version 3.16 yet for my camera, I started the utility manually without a camera connected. Doing so, the utility stayed open and I could click the 'check for updates' button, which downloaded version 3.16.

Hi Tim! Thanks so much for your helpful response. I will update to the latest EOS Utility version as you suggested. I typically launch the utility from the Dock on my MBP, but come to think of it, if memory serves me right, it may automatically launch once the computer detects the camera. As I get older, I feel like such a simpleton when it comes to technology. And yes, I feel like I am drowning in cables sometimes. But I keep this one with my camera and lenses because it's so important. I guess I should look into a card reader, if that's what the preferred mode is these days. I do sometimes wish I lived in earlier times where film was the only option.

EOS Webcam Utility doesn't work with apps like Google Chrome with M1 Macs, but it should be able to easily with some help from Canon.

I recently switched to an M1 powered Macbook Pro from an Intel one and noticed that after installing the utility, it didn't show up as an available camera. Doing some internet searching including on this forum I found the following advice:
1. Use OBS Studio as a virtual camera.
2. Use the x86 version of Google Chrome in Rosetta

Neither of these are a great option though as running OBS is purely band-aid and the x86 version of Chrome in Rosetta has a massive performance hit for me on my machine.

So I decided to do some debugging as to why it wasn't working. (Why does it work in OBS and perhaps some other places but not in Chrome) and it's actually really simple:

I agree they have dropped the ball. I purchased an M1 in 2021 and my canon cuts off when i used the virtual camera method. I don't feel like i should have to buy another camera but at this point I'm looking elsewhere or use my phone for live streaming.

I have a 700D and want to use EOS Utility remote shooting to make videos. I want to avoid using Auto Focus as it is SO loud as it constantly focuses. I can't seem to find a way to manually focus through the utility using MF. Only option so far has been to focus the camera first on the actual camera, and then begin shooting. But as I am filming myself on camera it would be ideal to be able to focus manually through the utility itself.

Hello! This is a little strange situation. I always tether on lightroom through all my Windows computers. Recently I have been attempting to do so with my canon R6 and it does not work. Lightroom keeps saying detecting camera, and my camera displays ...

Hello wonderful canon family,I have an issue that I was not experiencing a few months ago. I have an R5 and would use it as a webcam for zoom and teams, now the eos webcam utility disconnects from the camera after 20-30 minutes but I managed to keep ...

I forgot that canon does not update drivers and updated to Sonoma 14.1.1 and there isn't a driver update yet. this is ridiculous and has me wanting to leave canon altogether. I use my canon to stream on my computer, streamyard and now i can't use it ...

I have a MacBook Pro with the intel chip and with the latest version of Mac Sonoma. After spending a few hours getting the webcam utility up and running via the many workarounds offered between Apple and Canon now there is a much larger issue. The we...

I appreciate everyone's responses and attempts to help me, but I don't think I'm making myself clear enough.

1. I tether my 6D to my laptop. The communication between my laptop and the camera is through the Wireless Router at home.

2. I click a picture using the EOS utility (shutter button on my laptop), while the camera is sitting elsewhere.

3. Here is the problem, instead of saving the picture to the card and being ready for the next shot, as DSLRs normally work, it immediately starts transferring the photo to my laptop and LOCKS up the camera from taking any more pictures.

I want to disable this 'transfer as soon as you click' feature so I don't have to wait for the painfully slow transfer of files to the laptop while the bird is flying off!flickr photostream

NatalyaP, thanks for the advice. I ended up dragging my whole Canon EOS Utility folder (forget the exact name of it) into the trash before my important zoom (there did not seem to be an unistaller, unlike the Webcam app); and soon I will reinstall it from the zip installer, which I still have from my original download. But during my zoom I learned that the EOS Utility wasn't the problem; the webcam utility itself cut out spontaneously, but pressing the camera's shutter button and one or two things on the computer brought the webcam back to life. I guess I will have to live with this, and figure out the quickest possible way to get the webcam back when it goes off like this.

NatalyaP-- Perhaps I should start a new conversation, but since you're an expert maybe this is as good; I've already noted my new but related problem down below, but without response so far. Problem is that reinstalling EOS Utility failed. My removing it from my computer, as you suggested, consisted of dragging the utility folder from Applications to the trash and later emptying it (I didn't see any uninstaller). After this experiment I re-downloaded the utility, opened the disk image to install, and all that happens is an "extracting files" progress bar appearing for a second and then disappearing. Nothing else. (Restarting computer doesn't help.) I don't know what to try.

I am holding off on Win 11 upgrades for a year in order to let the dust settle. Still hoping Canon will port DPP and utilities over to Linux which is a far more stable OS that is much cleaner. My HP Z820 and Z840 both came dual boot with Linux and Windows installed and the only time I boot the workstations into Windows anymore is for DPP and EOS utility (I use EOS to transfer files via ethernet from my 1DX series bodies to the network).
