Hatton Dart's Jamie Fletcher finished first at the Burton 10k on Sunday, in a time of 35 minutes fifty four seconds with a controlled and impressive performance in a field of 248 runners.
Fittingly, it was the Darts that organised and marshalled the event - the 6th race in
the Burton & District Summer League.
The course took runners from Belvoir Road up an arduous climb on to Field Lane,
before pushing on to Anslow village. After more gradual climbing to Henhurst Hill,
runners were rewarded with a mainly downhill section to Shobnall Leisure Centre
and a grandstand finish with a lap of the athletic's track.
Next to finish for the Darts was Duncan Stewart who gave his all, including a sprint
finish for 6th place in 37:49.
James Cassidy put in a solid performance for 9th place in 38:23, with the ever - dependable Jason Tilley close behind in 38:41in 11th position.
Dart's Captain Mark Slade ran well for 26th place in 40:17, with Paul Waters just
seven seconds behind (29th) and the final counter for the Men's team who finished
a point behind South Derbyshire, who took the team prize.
Tracy Hinxman was the first lady Dart to cross the line in 40:58 and 35th place,
which deservedly took the women's vet.35 prize.
There was a thrilling finish on the track involving Steve Hotter, Deb Gilman and
Phil Daws, with Hotter sprinting over the line in 45:21 (68th), a mere second in
front of Gilman, who was happy to pick up the women's vet.45 prize, and the improving Daws 45:23 (71st) who ran well to hit his target time.
The next red vest in was Richard Millward, who ran determinedly to cross in 47:08
(85th). Pete Sennitt pushed hard to finish in 55:15 (166th), followed by Carol Sharratt in 61:23 (215th).
