On a bleak September 21st Saturday morning Hatton Darts descended, in numbers, on the ever popular Conkers Parkrun.
For those not in the know, Parkruns are run completely by an amazing array of volunteers and is a totally free event to encourage all people from all walks of life to enjoy the camaraderie running, jogging, walking brings with it. They are now held nationwide with a regular 9am Saturday morning timeslot being filled by tens of thousands of people.
Hatton Darts were very grateful to the Conkers faithful for allowing a club race to be held and all were well received by both regulars and newcomers alike.
The start line saw a sea of Red vests fly down towards the bridge before a sharp right and left saw an ascension to the start of the mile long multi terrain stretch, then a killer short sharp hill, known by locals as "the cheeky hill"l before a run along the Moira canal and a turn back the way you came. The finish now a known fast sprint from under the bridge to the timekeepers and encouraging spectators. Along the way resident photographers make the run all that much more memorable.
With a sprint start Jason Tilley led the way up to the 1k point before Jamie Fletcher took control and came in eventual winner in a fine time of 17mins 29 seconds on what is known to be a tough gravelly 5k route. Jason Tilley held of tri athlete and team mate Andy Thornton in battle royal. Tilley extremely happy with 2nd and 17mins 51 seconds, Andy fading over the final quarter mile, 18mins 5seconds, holding of a speedy finishing Mark Slade, Slade smashing his pb time in 18mins 9 seconds. Vet Tony Caulton turned out for his first run on this course and enjoyed the terrain, 6th in 18m20s. Jo Alcock ran on tired, marathon trained legs but still took 7th in 18m25s.A small gap before next Dart arrived in the form of Stalwart Stan Knopik,18.41 for 8th.Ian Stewart pushed hard by Richard Nash for yet another PB.18th and 19th respectively. Pete Stevens,23rd, was just outside the 20min mark but please to be a few seconds in front of Chris Fletcher,25th.Paul Smith finished fast, just one minute behind Fletcher,34th.
Next Red vest was 1st dart female Emma Dyson, pushing all the way, happy for 4th overall lady in 22m21s. Ralph Huthmacher took his 70th place token in 23m45s. Rachel Elliot missed out on top 100 place by just 1 second but very pleased with 20th lady after little training. Jane Wade is looking forward to the cross country season with a 30th lady placing.
