2GB hosts among its stars a former Jackaroo (John Laws) a Coach (Alan
Jones) and a Taxi Driver (Ray Hadley). The type of broadcasting one
would expect from people with such backgrounds would be
(traditionally) bigoted but this is the first time a radio station has
given voice to extreme right-wing politics.
Oldfield will be on-air during what has traditionally become a time to
test new talent in Radio: December 10 to January 11 whilst the
professional presenters are on holidays. Oldfield said he was "very
excited and very grateful" and boasted he was going to become a "radio
star".
Sydney's multi-cultural community, already feeling the strain of 2GB's
constant tirades against them, will certainly not be impressed with
this "sick" christmas present. 2GB it seems however is unconcerned in
view of the inability of the ACMA to reign in their racial attacks on-
air this year.
Of course this could be seen as a desperate bid to grab "shock" points
for a station that was recently slammed in the ratings. In the last
survey Alan Jones lost a massive 2.7 points. John Laws audience share
continued its downward spiral. Indeed 2GB consistently lost more
listeners across every time-slot than any other Sydney station.
