Our Topics and Speakers will be:

Creating Statistical Graphics in SAS®, Warren Kuhfeld, SAS Institute
Effective graphics are indispensable in modern statistical analysis. SAS provides statistical graphics through ODS Graphics, functionality used by statistical procedures to create statistical graphics as automatically as they create tables. ODS Graphics is also used by a family of procedures designed for graphical exploration of data.

This tutorial is intended for statistical users and covers the use of ODS Graphics from start to finish in statistical analysis. You will learn how to:
  • Request graphs created by statistical procedures
  • Use the SGPLOT, SGPANEL, SGSCATTER, and SGRENDER procedures in to create customized graphs
  • Access and manage your graphs for inclusion in web pages, papers, and presentations
  • Modify graph styles (colors, fonts, and general appearance)
  • Make immediate changes to your graphs using a point-and-click editor
  • Make permanent changes to your graphs with template changes
Warren F. Kuhfeld is the director of the SAS/STAT Advanced Regression Models R&D group. He received his Ph.D. in psychometrics from UNC Chapel Hill in 1985 and joined SAS in 1987. He has used SAS since 1979 and has developed SAS procedures since 1984

Warren wrote the SAS/STAT documentation chapters "Using the Output Delivery System," "Statistical Graphics Using ODS," and "ODS Graphics Template Modification." He also wrote the SAS Press book “Statistical Graphics in SAS – An Introduction to the Graph Template Language and the Statistical Graphics Procedures”.

Heavenly Hash Object Programming in SAS®, Michael Mancini, Foxwoods Resort Casino

Since the release of SAS 9 it has been possible to create Hash and Java objects within the data step.

This presentation will discuss Hash objects.

Hash objects are associative arrays constructed in memory. Because of the way in which they are constructed and because they reside in memory, tremendous performance improvements can be achieved using Hash objects. Hash objects are processed using methods that are referenced using dot(.) notation. Therefore, the syntax for creating and using Hash objects is different than traditional data step programming.

This presentation will discuss the creation of Hash objects, basic Hash object syntax, and how to associate Hash objects with traditional data step variables, data sets and data step processing.

Michael Mancini is a member of the CRM group within Database Marketing at Foxwoods Resort Casino. He is responsible for development of predictive analytic models of patron behavior, development and support of Web based reporting tools, and support of the SAS platform. Prior to Foxwoods Michael worked for Destiny Corporation as a SAS instructor and consultant. Michael has a PhD in Psychology from the University of Rochester. His specialty was Neurophysiology of the Visual System.

Encourage your colleagues to join us for this meeting by registering on the www.hasug.org website.
