Anthony (Tony) Saverino passed peacefully on Tuesday at 99 and a half years young. Funeral is tentatively scheduled to be in Arizona's Chino Valley 1/7/23. According to his son Mark, Mr. Sav drove to church Sunday and went out with friends on Monday. When called on Tuesday morning, Mr. Sav had fallen and was dizzy. He was taken to the VA hospital, but was in heart failure. Much of the family was there in person to say their goodbyes, and made sure he was comfortable.

James Shillinglaw and I owe Mr. Sav a debt of gratitude. Beyond teaching English, he taught us public speaking as an elective course. We were able to show him we use what he taught us daily as on-camera hosts for video interviews of top travel VIPs for Insider Travel Report, the newsletter we founded that goes out to more than 110,000 travel advisors. Thank you, Mr. Sav. May you play tennis with the angels while reciting Shakespeare and singing show tunes.

Mr. Saverino (as I still think of him) was one of those rare teachers who, as others have already written, made a lifetime impact. He came to me in 11th Grade and talked me into directing a show that combined middle school students, their teachers, their parents, members of the school board, and the Westchester County Executive. It was difficult, but it worked out and gave me the confidence that I could be a director of theater.  May he always remain a blessed memory!

Tony was a very important member of our faculty, and a dedicated teacher. I am saddened to hear of his passing.
