Jody Rosann Sporn of Hamilton, NJ passed away on June 9, 2024, at the age of 67 after a short illness.
Jody grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY and graduated from Hastings High School. She earned a BA in communications from Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ. After marrying her soulmate, Steve, they settled in the Hastings area for six years before moving to Montclair, NJ in 2008. They subsequently moved to their dream home in Hamilton, NJ in 2019.
Early in her career, Jody had several IT positions including a 10-year stint in Boston after which she returned to the NY Metro area. She had a very successful career from 2000 until her retirement in 2022 with Katz Media Group in NYC and continued working on special projects until May 2024. As Vice President, Business Solutions and Implementation, Jody was dedicated to her work which she loved. Her innate troubleshooting skills and ability to solve complex problems made a significant impact at the firm, and she was a tireless champion of women in the workplace.
Jody was always full of ideas, and she was pivotal in revitalizing the social life in her community. She was the driving force behind the resurrection of the long-dormant community newsletter and served as editor. As an active member of the Social Committee, she helped bring events to the residents such as a community barbecue, trivia nights, monthly mixers, and holiday celebrations. She participated in the Knitters and Crafters group and the ladies’ bocce and cornhole teams. In her free time, she was a passionate and creative baker who enjoyed sharing her goodies with her friends. Jody truly became a Jersey Girl who loved the shore and particularly vacationing in Cape May. On weekends, she loved to explore the many farmer’s markets throughout the Garden State. Her love of ethnic foods and entertaining led to endless exploration and many wonderful dinners with friends. Her humor, wit, kindness, and generosity will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Jody is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Steve Cohen. She is also survived by her siblings: Lee Sporn and his wife, Joy Mossholder, of Hilton Head, SC; Matthew Sporn and his wife, Karen, of Seattle, WA; and Emily Reiblein and her husband, Chris, of Charleston, SC. She was pre-deceased by her brother, David Sporn. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Brian Landsman of Cornwall, NY. In addition, Jody is survived by four loving nephews and one niece.
