Former Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister and candidate for
leadership of the Progressive Conservative party of Canada, Flora
MacDonald is this year’s guest speaker at the Historical Society’s
annual fall banquet. Since leaving office in 1988 she has devoted
herself to the cause of international human rights, particularly in
Afghanistan.
Flora MacDonald is deeply involved in developing social projects in
Afghanistan to improve daily life in that war torn country. Her
presentation "The Other News from Afghanistan" will focus on efforts
to simulate and encourage self-sufficiency on the part of the Afghan
people. It is a story of what one influential Canadian can do to
better the lives of people half a word away.
The banquet will be held Saturday, November 6 in the Park Ballroom of
the Ramada Hotel in Belleville. Social hour at 6 pm for dinner at 7
pm.
Please join us for the evening. Banquet tickets ($50.00) are
available from Greenley’s Book Store, 258 Front Street, Belleville.
