The Dell Inspiron Gaming is one of our favorite laptops for a number of reasons, not the least of which is how friendly it is to upgrade. It's possible to spend a little less in the first place and then add some better parts down the road, which is made extra impressive by the "bang for the buck" you get with this laptop.

The latest version of the Inspiron Gaming, the 7577, supports non-volatile memory express (NVMe) solid-state drives (SSDs), and if you're going to get one of those our top pick is the Samsung 960 Evo.

The secondary drive in the laptop will almost certainly be a mechanical hard-disk drive (HDD) which is fine since it's going to be mass storage, but it's still slow. If you want something faster, stick in a 2.5-inch SSD.

The WD Blue SSD is a great choice since it offers great read speeds up to 560MB/s and write speeds up to 530MB/s. It's also very attractively priced, with a 1TB model costing $250. There's a 2TB version, as well, if you're feeling flush.

There are many different kits out there but the important thing is to make sure you get DDR4 RAM in the SO-DIMM size, or it won't fit the laptop. This Corsair Vengeance 16GB kit is a great buy at around $200.

The SteelSeries Rival 700 is a stunning mouse. It's comfortable to use for prolonged periods of time, sports a detachable USB cable (although with a propriety attachment design) and keeps the RGB lighting to a minimum to prevent the pointer from appearing tacky.

The included TrueMove3 sensor is accurate enough to keep up with even the more competitive titles. There's even an OLED display on the left side that can be customized with some cool-looking GIFs or data from supported apps and games. It's available for a great price, too, at around $75.

You get Razer's own green switches with a satisfying click, along with the company's Chroma RGB lighting. The BlackWidow TE also comes with a wrist rest included in the box, and the cable is detachable. It's comfortable to use, looks great and will provide quality PC gaming anywhere you go.

I have Dell Inspiron 15-7577 JB9B142.I have HDD 1TB and 8GB DDR4. I want to upgrade my laptop add SSD disk and +8GB DDR. I don't want to exchange the old HDD with an SSD, just add one more SSD to my laptop. No information in web about it. I don't know what SSD and RAM will fit.

The spec page I found doesn't explicitly say that it has an NVMe slot. However, it does say "PCIe SSD" option, NVMe drives became available in 2014, and the laptop is from 2015. Other Google searches appear to confirm that it's got an open NVMe slot, but I'm not certain of the length. Ensure that you have a little screw of the proper size to perform the install, because Dell probably didn't leave one rattling around inside.

If you feel comfortable changing your boot drive to the NVMe SSD, the laptop will perform much faster on almost everything. If you haven't installed an OS before, it's a big project. You have to back up everything important first. Since there's no optical drive, you would have to create an install USB. You might have to deal with BIOS RAID / cache / AHCI mode. You might have to deal with storage drivers during the OS install. You might have to set the NVMe drive as the boot drive in the BIOS. Finally, if you don't back up as needed, you might lose all of your documents (just saying again).

  • If mixing memory speeds, all 2 DIMMs run at the lowest DDR4-2400 bus frequency.
  • Install DIMMs starting furthest from the processor.
  • Do not install DIMMs if the corresponding processor is not installed.
  • If only one processor is installed in a two CPU system, only half of the DIMM slots are available.
  • To maximize performance, balance the total memory capacity between all installed processors.
  • It is not required, but it is recommended to load the channels similarly if possible.

For the last two years, the Dell Inspiron Gaming line has been one of the best series of mid-range gaming laptops you could get, with solid traits and an excellent price (especially for those of you living in the US).

The latest iteration in the series, the Inspiron Gaming 7577, ships as of late September 2017, with a redesigned body, faster graphics, IPS screens, but also poorer speakers and a smaller battery than on the previous Inspiron 7567 model.

In fewer words, this GTX 1060 MQ is about 10-15% slower than a regular 1060, but still a significant upgrade from a 1050 Ti configuration. And keep in mind these are stock performances, you can squeeze more with some further tweaking: undervolting the CPU, overclocking the GPU, repasting both the CPU and GPU (this guide explains how to).

In the end, choosing between the i5 and i7 is entirely up to you. At list prices, the i7 configuration is not worth the extra $300 imo, but with all the available discounts you might get it for much less. You should also keep in mind the i7 is going to run a little hotter than the i5, but given what we know so far, temperatures and performance should not be a concern on this laptop. In fact, with the CPU/GPU averaging mid 70s out of the box without any tweaks, we could argue that Dell could have put a proper GTX 1060 chip inside this laptop and not the snipped Max-Q version, although there are some benefits of going for this option, as mentioned earlier.

The Dell Inspiron 7567 is one of the best mid-range gaming laptops that were available in 2017, and the updated Inspiron 7577 improves on some of its aspects, but at the same time looses some of its aces.

The 7577 only gets an average sized battery and average speakers on one hand, is fairly heavy and large on the other, and even the price might not be that appealing once your start specking it up to a Core i7 processor and more RAM. By that point you will find full-power GTX 1060 laptops selling for less, like the Acer Predator Helios 300, or laptops with better screens and larger batteries, like the Asus ROG Strix GL503VM or the Lenovo Legion Y720, to name just some of the other good GTX 1060 gaming laptops out there. Of course, each has its fair share of quirks, but you should at least consider them alongside this Dell if shopping for a laptop in this segment.
