It starts around the 00:30 mark and I've heard this synth sound in a variety of songs and I really like the sound but I have no idea what it's called. I'm pretty new to synths so if anyone could help, that would be awesome!

In Audacity, under the "Generate" menu, there is an option to generate a "Chirp". If you start at the starting pitch of the Mario sound and end at the ending pitch, then set the chirp length to the length of the sound, you may get something similar that you could work with.

During that time before the race starts, the player must rev up the engine on the kart or bike and if you time it just right, you can perform a Rocket Start or a Double Dash!! (Again, depending on the game).

The countdown has two sounds to alert the player when they can begin racing or battling in the series. Since its debut in Super Mario Kart, the beep is the most famous sound to signal the start of the race. This is also the same for Battle Mode but since Mario Kart Wii, it is replaced by an air horn. The number of beeps or horns will determine how much time until the green light. When the light turns green, it will trigger the final beep which are higher pitched, signaling the start of the race or battle.

After playing the game again after 4 or so years, I can say the game is definitely as good as I remember it. The tracks are great, the soundtrack is amazing (Especially the top results theme song), and the gameplay is fun. That and I love the Ballon battle and coin battle modes. Although, I do have some problems with the game.
1.The blue shell: I swear to god every time you get close to finishing a race, the blue shell arrives to remind you that it's the bane of your existence. Unfortunately, there is no way to get rid of it until mario kart 8.
2.The AI is extremely cheap: (150cc and mirror mode to be pacific). What I mean by that is that their speed remains the same when they're small, but you move slower. Sometimes, the shells will just past right through them even though it clearly hit them. When they're hit by a pow block, One of them will recover faster then you do for some reason. Hell, sometimes they even have the exact same kart as you do. That and when you make one small mistake on 150cc or mirror mode, you'll be at 9th or 10th place.
3.Mirror mode: When I played the game again last month, mirror mode reminded me why I hate it so much. I hate it because of the AI and some courses are just a massive pain to beat. Such as rainbow road which can go screw it off. Overall, mario kart wii is a blast to play and it's even more fun when you get to ruin your friendships with the blueshell.
Soundtrack: 9.3/10.
Game: 8.9/10.

I agree, the blue shell does suck. I was dominating the race one time and then I got hit with a blue shell, red shell, and then a thunderbolt and went from 1st all the way to last. I was near the finish and I haven't touched the game ever since. The soundtrack is amazing though. The losing music is the best.

This is honestly the best soundtrack in any mario kart game. It has several different styles, while all being upbeat, and is just so gosh darn good!

Great songs from a great game!

The rip of this soundtrack is high quality, but there is a problem, the songs only play a couple times, it would be really nice to have a longer run time, but you only can do so much I guess!

Hey Laura, just stumbled upon this post. Saw your performances at VGL in Bethesda today. Sooo good! ok, back to this post....I never realized the strong samba & mambo influence on the music in super mario kart. nice observation. now i'm gonna listen to this group called The OneUps who apparently do a lot of mario covers, including Koopa Beach: =7u_ygtx1nt4

Aside from these sweeping game states, more subtle aspects of a race are also underscored by changes in sound. When a player is driving through a tunnel, for instance, a reverb is applied to their kart sounds and vocalizations.

Minegishi kept pursuing his dream of becoming a video game sound designer and applied at Nintendo. After he had passed a composition examination and a written music test, he obtained a job at the sound group of the Entertainment Analysis and Development (EAD) division.[1][2] Minegishi often listens to music at home to make himself familiar with a variety of musical styles.[1] He prefers to create melodies in his head, but composes on the keyboard and the guitar as well.[1] The startup sound for the GameCube game console is one of the musical pieces he had conceived without instruments.[1] Minegishi cites the development of sound effects for Super Mario Sunshine and the creation of over 50 compositions from different musical genres for Animal Crossing (K.K. Slider's songs) as some of his greatest learning experiences.[1] He considers video game composer Koji Kondo, the manager of the EAD sound group, as big inspiration and a master of video game sound.[1] Minegishi's first involvement in the Legend of Zelda series was with the composition of three battle themes for Majora's Mask.[3] Later, he was assigned as the main composer for Twilight Princess.[2] Several of his compositions for Twilight Princess were arranged for orchestra by Jonne Valtonen, and performed at the concert Symphonic Legends in September 2010.[4]

This is a remix of the track that plays on multiple race courses in Super Mario Kart named "Mario Circuit", it being a recurring race course in the Mario Kart series. It reappears in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii, Fortune Street, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Kart Tour, and Super Mario Maker 2. The remix is done in an electronic house-based style and includes the Starting Grid countdown theme to signal the start of the race, as well as using the kart engine sound effect from Super Mario Kart.

REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 14, 2005 - That sound you hear is the thunder of video gamers worldwide revving their engines for the launch of Mario Kart DS and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. For the first time ever, the online gaming service for Nintendo DSTM lets users connect wirelessly to race.
