The buzz around Teja Sajja's film HanuMan has been ongoing, particularly regarding its streaming rights. Initially slated for release on Zee5, the film took a different route, premiering in Hindi on Colors Cineplex before landing on Jio Cinema. Now, the Telugu version has quietly made its way onto Zee5, sans any formal announcement, prompting speculation.
Interestingly, a subtle discrepancy between the runtimes of the Telugu and Hindi versions has caught attention. While the Telugu version clocks in at 2 hours 30 minutes on Zee5, the Hindi version spans 2 hours 38 minutes, matching the actual runtime. This raises questions about potential edits in the Telugu cut, though specifics remain elusive without a side-by-side comparison.
Director Prasanth Varma addressed the delay in the film's OTT release, assuring fans of ongoing efforts to bring it to audiences promptly. However, the rationale behind the trimmed runtime of the Telugu version remains unclear. While frame rate adjustments by OTT platforms could contribute to runtime variations, a significant 8-minute disparity seems unlikely to be solely attributed to this.
Notably, HanuMan is yet to debut on OTT platforms in Malayalam, Kannada, and Tamil, adding to the intrigue surrounding its digital release. Despite these developments, the film's box office performance speaks volumes. With a global gross of 298.18 crores and over 201 crores domestically, HanuMan has achieved blockbuster status, particularly in Hindi where it has crossed the 50-crore mark, cementing its status as a super hit.
As fans await its release in other languages, HanuMan is currently available for streaming on Jio Cinema in Hindi and Zee5 in Telugu with English subtitles, offering audiences a chance to experience the superhero saga.
Koose Munisamy Veerappan is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language True Crime docuseries by ZEE5,[1] created by Jeyachandra Hashmi, Prabbhavathi and Vasanth Balakrishnan. It is directed by Sharath Jothi and produced by Prabhavathi RV. It premiered on 14 December 2023.[2][3][4] The series explores the life of Veerappan using footage shot by Nakkeeran Gopal and archived by Nakkheeran.
Affirming the authenticity of the series, Journalist Nakkeeran Gopal in an official statement said, "We have invested huge efforts and taken significant risks to secure an interview with Veerappan. For the first time, this detailed version of the interview will be presented in a documentary narrative to the audience on the ZEE5 OTT platform under the title Koose Munisamy Veerappan."[7]
"Koose Munisamy Veerappan" was scheduled to premiere exclusively on ZEE5 as a part of its original programming, on 8 December 2023. The release was pushed to 14 December after the devastating rains and floods in Chennai.[10] The series will be available for viewers both in India and across the globe.[citation needed]
"Koose Munisamy Veerappan" received mostly positive reviews. The New Indian Express commented that the series is a "crash course into the tale of the notorious anti-hero."[11] South First published, "If you want to learn the truth, Koose Munisamy Veerappan is a documentary you must not miss."[12] NTV (India) rated it 3 out of 5 stars and called it a must watch series.[13]
Farrey, one of the sleeper hits of 2023, has finally hit OTT after a long wait. The film is currently streaming on ZEE5 and marks the acting debut of Alizeh Agnihotri. Soumendra Padhi, best known for Netflix's Jamtara, directs the thriller. During its theatrical release, Farrey had a runtime of 114 minutes, that is, one hour and 54 minutes. On ZEE5, however, the runtime appears to be one hour and 49 minutes. Well, there are no deleted scenes added to the streaming version, which is the new norm for theatrical films having OTT releases.
Niyati's journey in FarreyFarrey is a story of desire and deception that chronicles the path of Niyati (Alizeh), an orphaned 10th board exam topper from Delhi. With a scholarship, she is able to win a coveted position at a prominent metropolitan school. Her wealthy classmates entice Niyati into participating in a cheating racket, turning the film in an exciting new direction. She finds herself caught in a web of manipulation and greed as the risks and rewards continue to rise, and she is putting herself in danger of losing much more than she stands to earn. Niyati and her classmates may either emerge victorious or collapse under the pressure of their secrets.
High school drama with a twistAn outstanding example of a heist thriller, the film combines ambition, ethics, and raw feelings. The film, which Padhi directed, is more than just a story; it offers an enthralling journey through the intricate webs of morality, entwined with the threads of youth and genius.
But there is one aspect that shocked the audience. The length of the Telugu version that is right now streaming on ZEE5 is 2 hours and 30 minutes where as the version that was played in theatres was about 2 hours and 38 minutes. Audiences wonder if the OTT platform has cut short the length of some shots, i.e., frame rate difference (occasionally done by OTT platforms), or if some scenes were removed.
