Hi Everyone - This is an update on Greenstone Hollow.

1. The North and South Beaver Ponds are in good shape thanks in particular to work by resident “people beavers” Jennifer Frank and Cathy Delasco. The level is just about ideal.

2. A special big thank you to Sammy Samuels who continues to mow the Old Farm Road for his with his tractor. That takes a huge burden off of Doug and myself allowing us to concentrate on the other less accessible paths.

3. Thanks to Doug Beach who in May mowed all the northern part of the preserve - primarily from Bluebird Hollow north.

4. Today I mowed the West Blackbird Marsh Overlook (all 4 foot high!), the Chickadee Trail, the Wood Duck Pond Overlook, the trail along the North Beaver Pond, the Maple Grove Overlook and the Old Fort Trail and start of the Kinglet Woods Trail. As I write this I remember that I forgot to do the South Beaver Pond Overlook, so that will have to wait for a week. Sorry Cathy!

5. Thanks to John Crouch and Wendy Parsons who cleared a bunch of fallen trees and did other cleanup work as well a couple of weeks ago!

6. Thanks to Roberta Gowing and her expert gardening team for keeping the Butterfly Garden in good shape. Today when I was working I saw we have swallows nesting in one of the bird houses there.

7. Finally - What I would like, is to set up a work party sometime during the week of June 20th with myself and 4 other people. What really needs to be done is to work on clearing back the growth along the paths. I can use my pole hedge trimmer to cut things back quickly. But what I need is 3 other people willing to pick up and toss away the stuff I’m cutting, and 1 other person who could operate a trimmer to trim around the signs, bridges and wherever it’s needed. We could switch off the various jobs if you wanted. I’m thinking that 2 -3 hours work with a crew like that would get most of what we need completed. Let me know if you’d be interested in helping with that and if we get enough people, we’ll try to find a time for that.

Chris:

I’ve got a gas powered hedge trimmer and string trimmer that can cut through almost anything and could be of assistance. My primary chain saw is still in the shop for repairs, but I have a secondary saw which I will check tomorrow. Any day but Tuesday would usually work for me, but I have flexibility in my schedule at this point. Let me know what I can do to help.

Have a nice rest of your weekend!

Hi Everyone - Thanks so much for all of your replies. There’s a lot of variation in times that people are available, so I’m going to try and go by weather and see what happens. The next 3 days are really hot plus I have to get my pool washed and painted. Tuesday looks rainy, but Wednesday looks nice - high of 75 and cool the night before.

Please let me know if you could work Wednesday morning starting about 9am. If we can get a crew together we’ll try that, and then maybe try again on the weekend when others could work.

Thanks to all of you for your willingness to help out.

Chris

Chris:

That should be fine. I’ll bring my gas hedge and string trimmers. I have hand pole saws, but you said you have a power pole saw, so I won’t bring it unless you need it.
