Dear CLC members,

The terms of chessai, Cale and Emily are ending Jan 2023, so it is time for a new call of nominations.

I’m going to post a call similar to https://discourse.haskell.org/t/clc-election-january-2022/3839 with a deadline for applications Feb 1, unless there are other suggestions.

As usual, outgoing members are eligible for re-nomination and can cast their own vote.

chessai, Cale, Emily, I’d be grateful if you notify of your intention to stand for another term at your earliest convenience, as this affects voting procedures.

Best regards,
Andrew

I could go for another term.

Another possibility if we like the transparency and want people to expect their nominations to be public would be just to make a Github issue for it, and let everyone put their nominations in the comments.

I would also like to go for another term.

I second Cale's suggestion for public nominations.

I’m opposed to a GitHub issue with nominations, this is not a vanity fair. I’m worried that many contestants might be too shy to participate in such environment.

If I’m the only one wishing more private nominations process, let’s stick to the precedent and collect applications at core-librari...@haskell.org

Any more suggestions or comments? Otherwise I’ll post a call for nominations somewhere next week.

Best regards,
Andrew

I also would prefer the nominations to be private. That is how they
are handled for Haskell.org committee, HF board, and (I think) GHC
steering committee.

So 2 of us are in favour of public nominations and 2 are in favour of private nominations.

Emily, Melanie, what’s your opinion?

I'm in favor of private nominations.

With respect to whether or not i'm going to renew, I think I'll stand for another term :)

Melanie, if we don’t hear from you until tomorrow, I’ll assume you abstained. Sorry for deadline, but I’d like to sort this out before Christmas.

Current count is three votes in favour of private nominations and two votes in favour of public ones.

Best regards,
Andrew

I should also say it doesn't bother me either way how the nominations are conducted. Private nominations are also fine with me, so if it helps us get through the process faster, go ahead. :)

Dear CLC members,

We received 5 nominations so far. I’ll forward all of them to you privately at the same time, once the application window closes.

Given that all of outgoing members are standing for re-election, I’d like to exclude the possibility of not acquiring any new members at all, because such outcome would enforce a view of CLC as a rigid cabal. Thus I suggest we increase the size of CLC to 7 members in total, so that at least one new person joins.

Because of members standing for re-election we cannot hold an open ballot. I suggest we go for a ranked vote: each voter will put all candidates in their preference order and send the ballot to clc.nomina...@gmail.com for me to select Condorcet winners (potentially using https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schulze_method to resolve uncertainties).

I’m sorry for a short notice. If you are unhappy with either of suggestions (expanding CLC to 7 members + Condorcet ranked vote), please reply asap.

Best regards,
Andrew

Hi,

For some reason I haven't been receiving these emails to my inbox. I received the one Andrew sent this morning with all the candidates' profiles, but none of these have been making it. Not entirely sure why, I'll look into it.

Cheers
