Dear Chevra,

I've been doing a presentation on Jews and indigenousness that is creating a way to talk about Israel/Palestine that, I believe, can get people with different perspectives on Zionism and the war talking.

We recorded one of these sessions, which included Jews in the Berkeley community who identify as Zionist and others who identify as anti-Zionist. And everyone listened and learned together.

It is possible to get past the polarization.

The baseline shared by everyone is that we care about what happens to the Jewish people, and we care about what happens to the Palestinian people.

This presentation on Jews and indigenousness is just that -- not about the matzav (conflict) directly, and not about claiming that "Jews are indigenous". It is an inquiry rather than a polemic, centered on a rather important question: if we are indigenous, why does the Torah insist that we are not? The resolution of this paradox revolves around coming to understand Deut 11:8-12.

Thanks and kol tuv!
