Dear Chevra,

Please join me at the Valley Beit Midrash on Monday (note: this is 3-4 PM EST). We will be studying the laws of bal tashchit (not wasting), addressing the fatal flaws in the law, and exploring how to fix them. My session comes right between last week's session led by Rabbi David Golinkin and the following session led by Rabbi Elliot Dorff.

Bal Tashchit: How to turn an ancient law into a force for Earth’s care
$18 Register - A virtual event presentation by Rabbi David Seidenberg

Please note the event times are listed in MST.

ABOUT THE EVENT:

The law against wasting or destroying things, Bal Tashchit, is a torch held up by Jewish environmentalists to prove that Judaism cares about the Earth, but the law as it is codified in halakhah (Jewish law) is that you can destroy anything, if you can make a profit doing it. We will delve into the roots and interpretations of Bal Tashchit, including Rambam, Ramban, Sefer Chinukh and others, to find the basis for fixing Bal Tashchit so that it can become a strong and powerful ethic that will actually stand up to destruction and help us protect the Earth.

Dear Chevra,

Please join me at the Valley Beit Midrash on Monday (note: this is 3-4 PM EST). If you cannot afford the price for the session ($18), they have told me that you can make a donation based on what you can afford. Make sure you write that it's for the bal tashchit class in the "note" section. Then Alix Cramer from Valley Beit Midrash will register you. (Make sure also that the donation includes your email info.)
