Congratulations Everyone!
We have made a small difference.
Passing SB9 is a good step forward in Connecticut's fight to restrict neonics. There is more work to do, but ending the use of neonics on the state’s over 300,000 acres of grass should help protect birds and pollinators as well as reduce the harmful levels of this pesticide in our rivers.
We also managed finally to make neonics an issue that the people of Connecticut and their legislators are aware of! You all are an amazing team of advocates and because of you, we have seen legislative champions step forward to press for even stronger restrictions. We will work with them in 2026 to build on our momentum!
We plan to test rivers for chlorantraniliprole, a newer insecticide that is particularly harmful to butterflies and to the shrimp and oyster industry. We will keep working to restrict neonics on trees, shrubs, treated seeds and nurseries. And we will advocate for a searchable database in Connecticut showing what pesticides are being used, in what quantities, and where, in our state.
But today, we get be happy about passing SB9!
