Hi, everyone! It’s predicted to be somewhat chilly on Saturday, but not precipitating. As of yesterday, thousands of crows were still roosting in trees along Newfield Ave. in Hartford. Crows flew to the roost from multiple directions, and have been approaching from different directions on different days, so for our December 6 trip I think the best plan is still for us to all meet at 4 pm outside the main entrance to the Walmart Supercenter in the Charter Oak Marketplace shopping center (whose address is 495 Flatbush Ave., Hartford). We will decide where to go next depending upon where crows seem to be gathering that afternoon. The Walmart is at the southwest end of the shopping center, with plenty of parking nearby. A striped crosswalk leads from the parking area to the Walmart main entrance where we will meet.
Having a look in advance at a satellite map of the area we’ll be driving around will probably be helpful. Newfield Ave. runs along the west edge of the shopping center. Dexter Ave. intersects Newfield Ave. south of the shopping center, with a stop sign at the intersection; turning east on Dexter Ave. will take you to the intersection with Reed Ave. That intersection has been a good place to watch crows flying to the roost; there is parking along Reed Ave. Crows also have been gathering in trees along the south branch of the Park River, which crosses under the Newfield Ave. bridge. Yesterday crows were also flying to the roost from trees at Avery Heights on Newington Ave.
Dress quite warmly (including a hat, gloves or mittens, and warm footwear; hand warmers may also be useful): we will be standing still to watch the crows. Binoculars are quite optional; you will have a much broader view without them. The crow show will probably last a little over an hour. The trip will be cancelled or rescheduled if snow or rain is falling or the weather is otherwise dangerous; please call me (rather than texting) to ask me what’s planned if the weather seems borderline.
Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Oops, one typo: turning WEST onto Dexter Ave from Newfield Ave. will get you to Reed Ave. Corrected below in red: apologies! Sylvia
