Dear present and future Crow enthusiasts,
We are in luck, the weather has gotten warmer, and it should be a great afternoon to watch many thousands of crows flying in from afar to the Hartford roost! Yesterday there were large numbers coming in from the northeast and east, as well as points south, so we’ll be adding an additional vantage point to our route, and I expect we’ll see some impressive sights! I hope you can join us!
We will meet at 4 pm outside the main entrance to the Walmart in the Charter Oak Marketplace shopping center at 495 Flatbush Ave., Hartford. Park near the Walmart and cross the striped crosswalk to the main entrance, where I will be!
Given the new vantage point, which is the Hartford Housing Authority overlook, binoculars may be more useful than I was thinking, so bring them if that’s easy. We will also be driving to a couple of other places off Newfield Ave., which runs along the west edge of the shopping center and continues south to New Britain Ave. Having a look at a satellite map beforehand will give you an overview of where we’ll be.
By 5 pm it will be getting too dark to see much, though this year crows have still been flying into the roost after dark; you’re welcome to stay longer, but I plan to leave shortly after 5.
