Hi, Everyone, I’m writing to remind you of the bird walk this coming Sunday morning. Nice weather is predicted (dry, upper 50s and 60s), and we may even get some good looks at migrants fueling up for their nocturnal flights. As I mentioned at the Hartford Audubon meeting on Tuesday, if you’d like me to bring a small pair of binoculars for a guest to borrow on the walk, please let me know by the day before. If you have the Merlin smartphone app, it may also come in handy. Hoping to see you on Sunday! Sylvia
Here’s more information on where we’ll be meeting and what we’ll be doing:
Oct 19 A.W. Stanley Park, New Britain Sun 9:30 am
2159 Stanley St, New Britain, CT
Park in the lot across from the pool building.
(Note this is NOT Stanley Quarter Park, which is a different park in New Britain)
A.W. Stanley Park is a New Britain gem, hosting a diverse
community of resident and migratory birds, with mixed–species
foraging flocks assembling in October. We will take an
approximately 2 mile route, walking on paved and unpaved trails
through forested and open areas around the pond, including a small
hill and a cliff overlook, and marsh and stream viewing areas. With
luck, the maples will be putting on a colorful display. Dress
appropriately for the weather. We will probably spend a couple of
hours in the park, with many stops.
The trip will be cancelled or rescheduled if it’s raining; call to ask if weather seems borderline.
