board seems set on 1A, no shorts seen.

the DC-DC attached has its red led on, but nothing out the DC out pins.

We also tried powering it from the small daughter board that feeds the
original DC connector. Same outcome, namely red led coming up, and lsusb
being stuck. Tried connecting both to xhci port, ehci port, and through
a usb 2.0 hub, none worked.

I did some trials today:

Powered by 6V 2.5A power supply, when connecting got the red led on the blue modded board.

Depending on daughterboard configuration, I also got a blinking green led.

AFAICT the root problem occurs even without any daughterboard -

$ uhd_find_devices returns a single usrp1 with no serial number.

$ uhd_usrp_probe crashes with Error: AssertionError: libusb_claim_interface(this->get(), interface) == 0

I double checked and I have proper udev rules in places, and even root gets this behaviour.

lsusb doesn’t show any driver is actually holding the device open.

When connecting just daughterboard A, same behaviour.

When connecting both A+B daughterboards, I get the lsusb hanging behaviour Alon described.

Any idea how we proceed?

My system us running (arch) linux 3.19.3 and libuhd 3.8.1

What the error means is that the types at each end of a connection don’t match, eg. you’ve got a float output feeding into a complex number input. The trick (explained to me on IRC) is to change the types of each end until the colours match — eg. blue to blue, or brown to brown. To change the types, select a block and either hit the Up and Down arrow keys, or use the combo box that appears when you open the properties.

SUCCESS! The problem was the fucking USB cable.

I played with the USRP for several hours, even unsoldered the clock hack, and still no dice.

Then someone on #rtlsdr suggested to try a different cable, and it works.

However, the board still won't work with both daughterboards.
Only board A works (the one OPPOSITE the DC-DC bridge).

Note to self: pluging in the daughterboard backwards will cause the board to short. heh.

Anyway, Elad came over and we figured it all out.

Board works perfectly now, even got some new wires for the clock mod.

USB2 is a downer though. Only gets 8Msps @ 16-bit I/Q that kinda sucks.

On the bright side, we’re one step closer to setting up our own pirate BTS, or IMSI catcher (catcher).
