I've come up with this coreboot capable hardware list, it doesn't
include a case and a power supply, those I can get from the space. It's
based on plonter (plonter.co.il):

- Gigabyte - Supports AMD socket FM2 CPUs - AMD A85X chipset - 4 DDR3
memory slots supporting DDR3 1866 MHz - VGA, DVI-D, HDMI, DisplayPort
video outputs - 7.1 channel audio - S/PDIF - Gigabit LAN - 3 PCI Express

I welcome comments and group buy.

p.s. this is in addition to the mediagoblin computer (tamtam) that I've
cleaned up and appears functional right now (tons of dust removed by
using pressured air cleaning). Cannot store the backup on the same
computer. Tamtam has a RAID-1 array of 2 TB (2 disks of 2 TB). Hence the
3 TB for the backup computer, it would be a RAID-5 setup, i.e. one disk
redundancy, so 2 TB actual for 3 TB of disks.

The main price as you can see is the 3 1 TB harddrives, which I'll pay by myself gladly for playing with coreboot

missed a sentence there, it should have said:
The main price as you can see is the 3 1 TB harddrives.

The rest is 330 nis for the motherboard + memory

which I'll pay by myself gladly for playing with coreboot

requirements: 2 TB of storage, with some redundancy - I figure the least amount of redundancy is having 3 1 TB drives (can do 5 0.5TB drives too, I think it is more expensive).

you need to add 220 - 300 shekel for a reliable power supply

in any case there is a new computer with high quality ( altough not the newest ) components in the space

also bought a 6 tb drive for ~1600 shekel a month ago should be a better deal than 3 x 1 ones

if the only purpose of the box is to be a backup of an another source then a raid should not needed

Hi all,

it is good to use coreboot especially if using crypto.
There are AMD FX-boards that support ECC-RAM, non registered.
So if you have more RAM bits can statistically flip leading to false data.
So you should use ECC RAM on servers. The AMD-FX2 or 3? processors
support ECC, there is a board with 990 chipset that works fine on ecc
So it should be checked if the coreboot capeable board supports ecc ram!

see here:

RAID!

Check if it supports more than 2TB disks.
I have a raid controller of dell sas6i that supports upto 2TB,
so be warned and check with your controller before investing too much money
into big drives.

The recommendation I saw is to use software RAID. Says FreeNAS, which is FreeBSD, but it is mostly about he controllers sucking iiuc.
