When: Sunday, Nov. 5, 11am
Where: Dewey Square, Boston
(Meet in front of the Info tent; take the T to South Station)
Duration: 2 hours
Now that we’ve been occupying Dewey Square for a month, we’ve become obsessed with the connection between public space and democracy.
Did you know that many spaces in Downtown Boston are public-private hybrids, the product of decades of city policies that hand over the stewardship of public spaces to private corporations? These spaces belong to us, the public. But now that Dewey Square has become the heart of a powerful protest movement, it’s going to be important for us to reinforce our claims to, and understanding about, spaces like this.
We’d like you to join us on a walking tour of a few of these spaces in Downtown Boston. As we move through these plazas, atriums, and parks, we want to get to know these spaces with you.
We will meet on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 11am in front of the Info tent at Dewey Square. Please be prompt, as the tour will leave shortly after 11.
This event is organized by ICE-POPS (Interested Critical Explorers of Privately Owned Public Space), whose aim is to investigate overlooked public spaces in Boston and beyond.
