Hey Occupy,
Occupy has a lot of great activist energy and it seems like some of your members may find interesting a foreclosure crisis conference happening this weekend at Harvard Law School.
Project No One Leaves, one of the sponsoring organizations, uses student canvassing to alert Boston residents facing foreclosure of their rights and to inspire a movement against the foreclosure crisis. Foreclosure hurts individuals, neighborhoods and the economy. As students in the Boston area, we imagine you may be interested in being a part of curbing the foreclosure crisis. Or you may know individuals at your school who may be interested. This will be a great opportunity to learn from those already involved about ways students can play an amazingly powerful role.
For all those reasons, we want to invite you to Community Responses to the Foreclosure Crisis, a three-day conference at Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, that is occurring just this weekend! The conference will bring together participants from 15 states and Washington DC to discuss community organizing models and legal strategies to confront the national housing crisis.
While you are more than welcome to all of the panels, these events will be of particular interests to students in this area considering taking action:
- large-group presentation about the practice of canvassing at 10:30am on Saturday, November 12
- a smaller breakout group for students and attendees interested in developing canvassing programs in their own cities at 4:45pm Saturday afternoon
- a training for new canvassers and a mass canvass on Sunday, November 13 at 11:00 am.
For more information and logistical details, please visit: http://www.projectnooneleaves.org/content/conference-organizers-issue-press-release.
If you can't make the conference, but are at all interested in canvassing or getting a canvassing chapter started at your school, please email crodr...@jd13.law.harvard.edu. We'd love to hear from you!
Best,
Cristina Rodrigues
