Dear Lydia,

Thank you for responding to our request to be in touch about your summer plans.

We reached out to you because our office was contacted with concerns about the Discovery in Nature and Culture China Program you will apparently be participating on.

We have not been able to contact anyone at the program to verify its legitimacy. So far, as we have tried to ascertain if this program has any Harvard affiliation, we have found no one at Harvard who knows anything about this program.

This program is not sponsored by Harvard and participation is at your own risk since it has not been vetted by Harvard. Beyond identifying a few students apparently involved in mounting the program, and who originally sent recruiting information over a House Listserv to recruit Harvard students, we do not have any evidence that this program has a Harvard affiliation.

We urge you to consult very carefully with your parents as you prepare for the program. Among other matters of potential concern, we have taken note of the potential for harsh expedition conditions, and encourage you to do your due diligence as to all health, safety and security matters related to this undertaking.

Sincerely,

Eva

Hi Lydia,

You received the below email asking you to contact us because you were listed by the Discovery in Nature and Culture China Program as a participant and research leader for this summer in China. Please let us know if these records are incorrect, and if you have applied for the program for this summer. Many apologies for the confusion if you are not a participant. Thank you for your timely response.

I don't know if I even should be receiving this email cause I'm already in China and I'm with my parents! What sort of check-in is this for...?
Thank you,

Lydia

我们应该就是a summer plan that combines harvard students with chinese high school students. we never listed our name as harvard dinc, but as "dinc". we have not used the harvard name in any way

yea we should apologize for it and make it clear that we had no intention of using harvard name, the only reason we included is because we had harvard students participating. make it clear that we want to bring harvard students to china to explore and connect with high school students. it is out of good intention

apologize for the confusion but not for the mistake!!! because if you apologize for the mistake, then they can take your word for it saying that you did illegal stuff and we could be sued!!! apologize for the confusion

I thought they want to do a video or phone check in
Just remember a few keypoints
1. We organize and participate in this in aim of bringing Harvard students to explore China and communicate with local high school students
2. We had harvard name only because there are only Harvard students participating from the US side. It was open only to Harvard collee students. Never intended to brand Harvard
3. It's a research program and academic support is received from local Chinese universities

Dear ...,
Thank you very much for your consideration and your concern, I feel really connected to the Harvard Community in your email outreach. Regarding the program, I am both a participant and an organizer; the program aims to bring Harvard College students to China to explore Tibet and Yunnan area and connect them with local high school students. We do research and receive academic help from local universities. The program, however, never intended to borrow the Harvard name. The only reason you see Harvard included is because all US participants are Harvard College students. I sincerely apologize for such confusion, and please be assured that this program is a legit and well planned one. Thank you for your understanding and confidence and sorry again for your troubling.
Best,
Scarlett
