Hey Snow,

Talked to the exec board today and they would like DINC to come and present the project at the April 16 exec board meeting first (9pm in Leverett dhall).  This will be an informal 15 min presentation on what the organization does, goals, etc. just so we can learn more about DINC!  Let me know if this works for you guys!

 This is Snow. I am currently a member of HPSD (in the Lead Us Today committee). I am writing this e-mail on behalf of a project in the great Tibetan area - the initiator of this project hopes to join HPSD as one of the international program committees. 

 I am involved in this project called DINC (Discovery in Nature and Culture), and our mission is to study the relationship between development, culture and environment specifically in the great Tibetan area, and to facilitate equality, justice and sustainable development in that region. The overall objectives of DINC this year are:

• To explore the trends of environmental changes in Sanjiang Yuan region, Maduo District, Qinghai Province; to unravel the origins behind the rooted problems of economic development; and to better the relation between the environment and modern development.
• Based on anthropological methodology, to utilize oral history, religion, physical objects, and customs as supporting approaches to humanity research; to examine and discuss the ethnic relations, as well as the social and cultural development of Lugu Lake area, Ninglang District, Yunnan Province. 

  Considering that HPSD provides a wonderful discussion forum about international development, we really hope to join HPSD as a committee, and to share our vision and idea with the HPSD general meeting. We believe that DINC has a lot to contribute to HPSD, and HPSD can help DINC better the human rights condition in the great Tibetan area!

Hi Snow,

Thank you so much again for taking the time to present your project to our exec board!  We enjoyed hearing about your work, and the great research strides that you have made, but we feel that the work you do does not align with the HPSD philosophy of "sustainable development", working in developing countries with specific communities in long term partnerships that empower these communities to become self-sustainable.

We do believe that what you do has great merit, it just isn't the work that HPSD engages in and we would probably not be of as much help to you as other Harvard centers.  We recommend that you possibly get in touch with centers such as the Global Health Institute, or the Harvard Center for the Environment.
