Hello all,
I would like to know if any of you are interested in meeting.
I do not want to travel to Hartford, but I am not sure if any of you are?
If so please let me know.
Thanks again.
Rudy

Hello,

I am traveling to Harford on August 23rd and staying at a hotel in East Hartford.

On August 24th my husband will be attending a gaming retro conference at a conference center in Hartford and I will be "free" for the day.

I would be interested in meeting with some of your members to talk about Linux and Free Software if you wish.   It can be a really informal meeting, perhaps in some brew pub, or at the Red Rock Tavern at the corner of Capital Avenue and Flower Streets, close to Aetna.   The Red Rock was a hangout of some of the Aetna computer workers in the time frame of 1973 to 1977 when it was Kenny's Restaurant.

This will not be a formal thing or a formal talk, but I can tell people what computing was like back then, the starting points of Unix and Linux, etc. where the conversation goes.   How Aetna (and other insurance companies) started the Hartford Graduate Center offering ONLY a master's degree in Computer Science, or how Joseph Gerber, of Gerber Scientific in Toland, Ct. was a major force in plotters, scanners and other control, and whose legacy still exists in "Gerber files" used in 3-D plotters and laying out printed circuit boards.

It can be a lunch or just a beer session, and I am not tied to the Red Rock.   The Thomas Hooker Brewery at Colt (140 Huyshope Ave, Hartford, CT) looks good.

Let me know if your group is interested in doing this.

Sorry if I start drooling, I seem to think
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Hall_%28programmer%29 is actually an
insufficient overview, although I don't actually know of anything about
him that is not listed there. I couldn't quote anything, but I know
I've heard that name in various computing related contexts for many
years.

I'm absolutely interested in meeting him. My only restriction is that
it be vaguely lunch time, so I can be home by 5PM.

Anyone interested in carpooling from the southeast corner of the state?

All,

Based on Rudy's recent email, I just re-read the original, and realize
I completely misread the date. Jon said he would be "free" on 8/24.
That is Saturday, not Thursday, so it removes my constraint to be home
by 5PM. My preference is still to meet for lunch so I can be home for
dinner, but I won't really need to leave Hartford until 5 or 6. More
flexibility.

On his apparently new offer of giving a talk, I suppose we can discuss
this with him on the 24th, and suggest one of our regular Jitsi
meetings once we start up again in the fall. That would avoid his need
to drive, and I think an evening meeting will draw more folks than
afternoon, although a Saturday is an interesting thought. Perhaps his
presentation might get us a larger crowd than usual.

Hi:

I would like to join for a meetup with Jon Hall.

I can come for lunch on Saturday  24th. Thomas Hooker brewery at Colt sounds good.  I think I might have better parking.

But please let me know what the final details will be.

Thank you
Anna
