Hello everyone,
My company is new to Ruby development, but we are converting from Coldfusion to Rails. I've gotten permission to host a couple of meet ups and we're hoping to see what kind of Ruby community exists around the Hartford area. If there is interest, I'd like to run the meetings in sort of an open hack format.

I'm hoping to use this meeting to help some of the devs here get their development environments set up. I'm fairly new to this as well, so hopefully we'll all be able to work together and get it figured out.

Pizza and soda will be provided and it is open to anyone that is interested in Ruby. It will be hosted at finalsite's office on Main St. in East Hartford (http://finalsite.com). We'll probably run about 6:30pm - 8:30pm, feel free to come for any portion of that time.

Please let me know if you are planning on coming so I can make sure we have enough food/drink.

I look forward to meeting you all,

Rob

Rob :

Welcome to the group, and good luck on your conversion from ColdFusion to Rails.

Our humble little group used to meet monthly in Hartford. It became hard for us to maintain a venue as well as refreshments, and eventually the meetings tailed off.

I bet there are still a few on the list that would want to meet up. I might have a hard time on June 10th specifically, but will do what I can to make it. I also added my partner who does some Rails work but isn't part of this mailing list yet.

Welcome to the group and I really appreciate you putting together a meeting in a real venue.   :)  Let's see if we can get some chatter going.

Thanks!

Aaron

Hey Rob -

I would *love* revive Hartford Ruby. A venue is definitely a great first step in the right direction. June 10th may not work for me personally (going to Amsterdam to give a talk) but I'm happy to come just about any other time my schedule permits.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help (give a talk, help setup Rails envs, get some sponsorship, anything). Thanks!

Awesome. Like I said, I'm pretty new to all of this so any help will be greatly appreciated!

We're here to help, and again thank you very much for offering a venue/refreshments. Towards the end of our last venture we were charging for refreshments at the door (Sun was no longer able to sponsor the group).

So first questions.. At the venue what is the approximate maximum number of attendees, is there wifi, and is there a projector available? Also parking, since it's in East Hartford I'll assume there is a dedicated lot?

I can revive the twitter account @hartfordrb and announce it and try to get some steam back, but we'll need all the RT's we can get.

Rob what's the address? I'll add a page as well so we can all advertise a page in our social circles.  Also are you on twitter?

Thanks
Aaron

Hi Rob,

This is really great news.  The Hartford.rb group has been dormant for quite some time.  We used to meet in Hartford but as we lost a place to host meetings, it feel apart.

I am certainly interested in coming out to the meet up and I will pass along the information to some folks in the area who might be interested.

Thanks,

Hi Aaron,

I would say the max for the room would be about 25-30. We have wifi available and a projector.

Our office address is 809 Main St, East Hartford. We are on the corner of Chapel St and Main St.

We have a parking lot in the rear of the building that is accessible from Chapel St. It will hold about 35 cars. We also have an overflow lot that is further down the street if the main one gets full. Make sure to check with us on the location of that one if we end up needing it, the church and lawyers office that are near us don't like us parking in their lots.

You can find me on twitter at @rwidmer.

Thanks for getting the word out!

Sounds fun hope to see the old crew and hopefully some new folks.

You're down the road from that Peruvian place right?

Yep. We're a little south on the opposite side of the street.

I look forward to seeing you then.
