| Dr. Starr and Members of the Board of Education,
I attended last night's Board
of Education meeting and must express my anger about the proposal to remove yet another administrator, MaryAnn Mara, from
Hart Magnet.
The reason given for derailing the very real progress Hart has made under Mrs. Darling's and Ms. Mara's leadership
is the small size of Hart. However, this does not take into account all that Hart has been put through over the last few years by all the other
administrative changes you have imposed on Hart. In order to continue our progress, I urge you to NOT disrupt our school yet again.
This past year Mrs. Darling and Ms. Mara have worked together as a team, driving Hart forward. Disbanding this team would stall Hart's momentum, and have no doubt, it would take months, at a minimum, for a new administrator to get up to speed. Having Ms. Mara remain at Hart would allow us to build on all that we have begun this past year, instead of having our students, staff and families once again start relationships with a sixth administrator in four years.
We were
told yesterday that an Administrative Intern can do almost anything an Assistant Principal can do. If this is so, there can be no valid reason preventing you from placing an AI at Toquam, disrupting only one school, not two. Toquam has not already been disrupted by the repeated administrative turnover Hart has dealt with over the last three years, nor are they faced with revitalizing a magnet program.
I urge you to stand by your prior commitment to the revitalization of Hart. Removing Ms. Mara from Hart does not honor that commitment.
