The other day while walking back home from station, passing through
residential complexes, suddenly the silence caught me. My attention
was drawn to empty building compounds. Apart from the watchman, a few
drivers & empty cars, there was no one. Suddenly I remembered its
March -----

EXAM TIME.

The thought of exams took me back in times, my school days, times when
we use to play in building compounds. Even during exams our parents
allowed us to play. Irrespective of exams we would go down to play.

What is it that has changed?

Exams were then, exams are now.
Competition was then, it’s even now.

What is the purpose of exams?

It’s to check how much we have understood about that topic. It’s there
to evaluate our knowledge and FINE TUNE ourselves.

When my kids were in school I use to make worksheet as soon as the
topic was explained in school & pointed out the mistakes made by them
in the worksheet. The next time they would not make the same mistake.

Likewise exams are also like those worksheets made by almost all
parents/ teachers for the children.
Then

Why the fear of exams?

Is it because we as parents are too focused on a particular stream, a
particular institute, satisfying our egos in our child’s success?

Why can’t we treat EXAMS as just a worksheet?

Can we empty the compounds of our minds of the attachment for a
particular stream, institute, comparing success with percentage, etc?

Can we let the children play through the exams.

How many more suicides do we need to understand that Exams are ONLY a
fine tuning mechanism?
