You are receiving this email because either you were previously engaged when we pushed for a return to in person education and/or you are currently a parent of an elementary student. You will not see any further emails from me unless you
opt in via this form -
I do hope you will opt in though as we need to stay aware and involved in the community discussions and decision.
Please read the deck and opt in to stay connected so that as a community we can make our voices heard. We can find a way to continue to support the HS students' need for a later start time without sacrificing the healthy development and education of our elementary students.
If you opt in, it just means I will help you stay informed and you can increase your involvement as you choose. I will not assume you agree with everything I think and I won't put your name on anything unless you explicitly agree on that specific statement. It will take all of us, making concerns heard, to ensure the best for all grades.
My personal hope is that we ensure our youngest students have school hours that:
- are safe (buses before the sunrises at 715 in January as one example)
- allow for adequate sleep (at back to school night, the K teachers emphasized young kids need 10-11 hours of sleep each night, which will be difficult at that early of a start time given dual income families, activity schedules, and maximizing family time)
- support all families, including dual income families, and consider the impact on items such as after school needs (appropriateness of length of care needed and added expense)
- consider scheduling impact (some kids eat lunch so early already, what will the earliest lunch time be with this proposed schedule?)
- aren't changing to accommodate one group at the expense of another group (the first slide is about APA recommendation for HS but where is the consideration for elementary and slide 5 references solving for buses
Thanks for considering opting in to stay informed and hopefully choosing to get involved more too.
