Are there differenty tuned tiny harps? If so. Which one would be the best for a farely accomplished long-time player of the ten hole harps? Are they all layed out to play an octave or are there some modals that have a note layout like the first four holes of a ten hole diatonic? Enlighten me please. Ed

This is a little bigger than a Little Lady, but I ought to mention the Big Six. It plays like a real harp, actually quite a bit better than most, it's a short-slot C, so it plays like a D and the steel reeds extend its life. It's tuned either like holes 1-6 on a Richter or 4-9 on a Low C.

I once got a prewar Seydel Bandmaster (the one with the megaphones) Little Lady size harp that was a FIVE hole, those extra two notes make a lot more songs possible because you always run out of holes on the four hole.. It was a great idea, wish it had not been discontinued.

I have, a couple of times, used the Big Six onstage when we play Dylan's "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" (I think that's the song title). I like the sound of it and I like the way it plays better than lots of other harps. I used it for entertainment value a couple weeks ago when a friend got me up to play and started trading licks. When I needed to play something that would be above hole six on a regular 10-holer, I just did a little "air-harp" and pretended to play past the end of the Big Six. But this is a very nice harmonica.

-I'm always a little behind... but a while back someone mentioned here a French woman who is a good harp player. Christellester is her name. I finally had a chance to check out her YouTube stuff and it's amazing. She's 24, using overblows and playing all kinds of things. She plays mostly Seydels, and she's the real deal. If SPAH could bring someone like that. . . .
Check it out
Steve Webb in Minnesota, where summer finally arrived.

How about this young woman from France:

Her name is Rachelle Plas, and she's about 16 years
old. Check out her version of "Minor Swing".

It was I who posted about her a few days ago. Her name is Christell; I think she is really 38 (I
think she was joking when she said 24). Here's here link again: http://fr.youtube.com/user/christellester .
Yes, she plays lots of interesting stuff. Check out her version of Yesterday in 12th
position on a C harp. She's nice to look at too. Her video of her playing Misty is a treat for
the eyes and ears. She is a Seydell endorsee.
I recognize a few harp-L'ers who have posted to her site, so some of us were already hip to her.
Btw, I saw Jason Ricci had posted to her site.
Then Christopher wrote of Rachelle Plas at this link: http://www.myspace.com/rachelleplas .
Very good. I've been meaning to learn Minor Swing and her version is interesting. Btw, her MySpace
page has Howard Levy & Jason in her friends.

It's was refreshing to finally hear an "overbender" play music that is nice, sensible, sensitive, musical and enjoyable. Christellester makes nice music and not just a lot of obnoxious noting as many do with these techniques. She has wonderful "restraint" as a musician. Thank you Christellester! Ed
