Sure, the mac can run Windows. But it really does complicate things quite a bit. Bootcamp will turn the machine into a windows machine, which is like.. well, i have no software or "things to do" in windows - but VirtualBox will probably work. Im just not a very big fan of switching OS for simple things

Just a thought. I have never owned a Mac so I cannot give to many recomendations for it. I do know a guy that runs Windows in Vmware on it though. Actually I run my printer from a VM window. This is how I keep it from updating the firmware. I do not connect my VM to the network.

Bootcamp give you best performace, but if you don't like switch os, VMware or vituralbox are all good choices. Since you are not use it for any other purpose, you can limit the amount of memory/system resource it use in virtual machine and optimize the system performance in windows.

You can set patched version of XYZware v2.1.26.1 to run automatically. That way, you will feels like the whole windows system become one mac apps to you. Since virtual machine can save snapshot/hibernate, it will actually load much faster than your xyzware for mac (except first time and whenever you reboot your virtual machine, which is unnecessary).

Yearh I know the drill. Im just not fond of the idea I would much rather XYZ would just enable advanced mode without the community having to hack the damn program.. i mean.. cmon XYZ.. how hard can it be. Set it free ffs.

Oh I must admit, I think the mac-people are a select few, I do not think it would be fruitful to waste (so to speak) time on it. And, unless the Windows version has been coded in a universal language/platform (like, I dont know, you know.. Unity has universal deployment, Xamarin, java etc etc) then I guess they wouldn't have the advanced mode enabled on MAC.

.app is actually a folder, there are lots of file in the folder. Mac pack all application in folders for simplicity. Most of file (executable file are exception) in the folder can be opened by textedit and you can get a lots of information from there if you are interested in hacking it.

"What OS X does is to house each program in a directory. Inside your Apps folder are your applications, right? For instance, you see iTunes. The iTunes app in the Apps folder actually corresponds to a folder called iTunes.app (you can verify with Terminal). If you right click it (or option-click it, or use terminal), you can actually go into this folder and see all the contents, such as the icon, the library and resource files, etc. What's inside the folder loosely corresponds to the contents of an install directory in Windows. But Finder treats the folder as a program and hides the contents unless you specifically ask for them, to keep things neat. "

Yep; XYZWare on mac has a problem where it can crash on a loaded STL, and no matter you do when you open it up again, it will re-crash. However, since the environment its loading with, depends on the interface its loaded from, you can load it from command line with a fresh environment; hence, enter the .app folder and load the XYZWare executable, directly from MacOS/Contents folder. This will boot it up in empty environment. If the same problem occurs (for some reason, even clicking "do not reopen" will crash XYZWare.. really logical programming guys.. ) you can just close the Terminal window and make another; new environment.

I am unclear if there are anything to unlock on Mac - it seems the retract speed / temp etc, is already there, and I can find no strings in the resources thats isn't used somehow in the "ordinary program".

Can mac version import gcode sliced by Cura and edit the gcode like what windows version advanced mode can do? I think windows version advance mode also have manual control, but I never get it worked before I RAMPS converted mine.

Hey guys,
I just got the daVinci 1.0 last week. I have updated to the latest software but have not done a firmware update yet (until I learn more about my options). Everything worked fine last week and I was able to do several builds over a few days. The printer was last used on Saturday and worked normally. Today the software is not connecting to the printer. When I went to do a print this morning instead of the "slicing" box coming up it popped up the screen where it's looking for the printer. I have shut off/turned on the printer, disconnected and reconnected the printer cable, restarted the computer, uninstalled the software (and drivers) and reinstalled them (several times) all to no avail. A few times I was able to see the printer info in the software's "About" tab but it still wouldn't print (searched instead of slicing) and after failing the printer info in the "about" tab was blank. I had one instance (I believe to was after a software reload) where it actually did the slicing but then it was like it lost the printer and couldn't find it. There were no changes to either the printer or computer between Saturday and today. I'm baffled and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Printer display is normal. And I get the USB tone when unplugging/replugging the USB cable at the printer. In "Devices & Printers" it shows the printer. In "Device Manager" under Ports it also shows the printer. In both instances it says it's working properly. And.....it's working properly now! I just imported, sliced, and transmitted a part and the printer is heating up. The only thing I did differently is that I had given up on getting anything done today so I had shut the printer off about an hour ago. Previously I shut it off for about a minute or two. Weird! Thank you very much for taking the time to reply, maybe it was just your good aura that fixed it! ;-)

So...my problem has returned. I left the printer running on a long print last night. When I came in this morning it was completed and I removed it from the printer and prepped the bed for another print. When I went to send the file the searching for printer popup came up. I get the USB tone when I unplug the cable or turn off the printer so the printer knows it's there. I'm baffled. I'm going to try an hour long shut down because that seemed to "fix" it last time. Anyone else having problems with XYZware communicating with the printer? Oh...and after I got them to communicate on Monday night I shut the printer off overnight. When I came in yesterday and turned it on everything worked just as it should. So it appears that something screws up when it's left on for an extended period of time without doing anything.

EDIT: Follow up. Once again an extended shut down of the printer cleared everything up. I don't understand it but it seems to be consistent...the printer/software combo doesn't like sitting idle for extended periods of time.

do you have a 1.0 or 1.0a?I have a 1.0a and just started having this issue. I changed the com port and still had an issue, but left it on for a while and it started working. Mine seemed like it was connected, but would have the scrolling bar when I clicked to try and actually print as if it was not connected...and it said connected. Weird.

edit: almost forgot, I noticed that when I had this error, if I would reopen xyzware it would NOT prompt me to register the printer, like it noticed it's COM port, but it's not responding...interesting. Once I let it sit and reopened xyzware it prompted me and worked like normal. I'll try restarting my PC next time instead of the printer to see if it's a program/service issue.

Now, I began having issues with my Da Vinci 1.1a (by the way, I must be the only person in the world that bought one of these... very little posted online about them.) having gaps in the layers when using the XYZWare files. So I've been switching to Slic3r. As we all know, slic3r isn't directly compatible, so I'm writing a program to modify the slic3r file to work with the da vinci. I'm making really good progress, but I was hoping to take a look at a file created by XYZWare for reference. I cannot decode the file though. It appears not only base64 encoded, but also maybe zipped? or something like that.

Does anyone have any info on decrypting an xyzware file into a readable file? It seems like it has to have been done for someone to figure out the header, but I cannot find it for the life of me on any of the forums.

Doesnt seem to be working but would be gr8 to see the underlying gcode. Even better if can edit it and recreate new .3W file consumable by current xyzware Perhaps though encryption makes this hopeless...
