Dear friends,
Greetings once again from Abbotsford, British Columbia. The Pacific
winter is upon us- damp, dark and chilly. I'm looking forward to next
year, where I suspect New England may be much colder but should also
have a bit more sunshine.
We are all doing well. Daphne continues her work as a Registered Nurse
for Home Health, helping patients live at home with support from the
local health authority. Peter is growing and thriving. He particularly
loves jumping in puddles with his dinosaur boots. When you ask how old
he is, he declares "Two!" with authority. Peter's schedule- swimming,
music class, playdates, adventures in the park no matter the weather,
reading stacks of books- keeps me busy enough, but I've also started
teaching two very different classes.
I'm the new Sunday School teacher at our parish, Holy Nativity
Antiochian Orthodox Church in Langley, BC; and once a week I teach
Swahili language to a group of university students. It has been a
delight for me to exercise my teaching muscles, to get to know some of
the children of our parish, and return to the world of Kiswahili. Now
that I have my Canadian work permit (at long last!) I hope to find other
ways for our family to build up savings towards seminary.
We're looking forward to moving to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of
Theology in Brookline, MA in August 2016. This is a crucial step towards
our return to the field as long-term missionaries with the Orthodox
Christian Mission Center. Our correspondence with the seminary continues
to be encouraging, and we were grateful to learn recently that I have
been awarded a partial scholarship. God willing, this scholarship can be
the foundation for us as we continue to seek the bulk of the funding
needed for seminary.
Thank you for your continued prayers and love. A blessed feast of Saint
Nicholas, and a holy Advent, to you all!
By your prayers in Christ,
James, Daphne and Peter Hargrave
