to Hardhats,
Just to let you know, this conference in November is meant to complement the
VistA Community Meeting which will be held January 13-15, 2012 in Sacramento,
California at UC Davis. At that conference, we will have a track for Users,
the developers from the VA will be presenting again and I hope by then the
Custodial Agent will be active so we can start talking about collaboration
with the VA developers. Roger Baker will again be presenting and I expect
others from the VA as well.

At the VCM in June Roger Baker said that he felt the VistA Community Meeting
was the appropriate place for them to meet with the community, so I am
expecting the CA to be represented at the meeting as well. I also expect the
educators from the Universities to be well represented as VistA is being used
for teaching in more and more places and the VCM is a natural place for the
cooperation with the education community to flourish.

For those of you who have been around the MUMPS community for a long time,
Wolfgang Giere is planning to come from Germany and Richard Walters will be
there as well. It will be a good place to have a reunion.

I plan to be there as well, to record some oral history videos... and would like to organize an Underground Railroad Banquet, as well.

By the way, Nancy.  I realize that some folks think that everything west of the Mississippi is pretty much the same, I have to point out that Sacramento is not Davis...

It is the Sacramento campus of Davis as I understand it.

Nancy,
Can you humor my OCD and fix the spelling on Rob Tweeds topic for the VCM on the web site?
It is currently "The Roll of EWD in Modernizing VistA plus a tutorial on the same topic".  Unless we're doing circular programming, it should be "The Role of EWD in Modernizing VistA plus a tutorial on the same topic".
Thanks!
Mark
P.S. - this is an example of open source in action! :-)

Done. I am going to backup the site shortly, so don't panic if you can't get
on in it sometime in the next 30 minutes.

It is possible I'm just not seeing it, but I can't find an address or detailed identification of where the meeting will be.  I see room numbers on the agenda, but without a building, address, or something, I can't figure out where I should be.

It is in the Medical Education Building and from what I gather from talking to
our hosts at UC Davis, it is diagonally across the street from the Marriott.
I will see if I can get an exact address and a map. The Medical Education
Building houses both the Medical School and Nursing School.

It does look like that place is a huge complex of buildings and hospitals.

just a reminder that the Underground Railroad Banquet is on Saturday night at the hotel...

These are always difficult to plan, because I have to guarantee a certain head head count (on my personal credit card) with the caterers well in advance, but folks tend to make their reservations at the last moment.  So, please take advantage of the early bird registration at http://urr2012.eventbrite.com/ for what will surely be a memorable evening.

Back in Germany and at my desk I would like to thank all of the
hardhats, old friends and new ones and -- of course -- especially Nancy
for this wonderful meeting. It reinforced my decision to try to get
WorldVistA installed in Germany -- or perhaps even to get a EuroVistA as
part of WorldVistA.

On the way back I wrote my report. It is not yet finished and -- helas
-- it is in German.

I am happy to cooperate in trying to make the worlds best medical record
system even better.

Herr Professor,

Es waere wunderbar, wenn Sie mir Ihren Bericht ueber

Ihren Gedanke bezueglich 'EuroVista' finde ich

Nancy,

I promised to look for an English version of my BAIK-information model
and other theories concerning the active electronic medical record, part
of which I presented in Sacramento:

Wolfgang Giere: "Medical Information Processing - The BAIK-Model", pp
24-34 in "Open Systems in Medicine", edited by E. Fleck, IOS press,
1995, ISBN 90 5199 123 1 and Ohmsha 4 274 90008 8.

If you encounter difficulties getting a copy, I could scan and
distribute it.

Btw:

Ruth Dayhoff gave me a copy of the announcement of a V.A. Medical
Information Systems Seminar Oct. 23, 1991 in Washington Information
Systems Center. Agenda:

Automation of the Clinical Record: Objectives and Tools (from myself) and

The Indian Health Servie's Clinical Record Software (from Greg Shorr)

(see attachment)

It was a very good meeting. Thanks for to all the presenters!. I had
the chance to learn a lot from the VistA Community and the OSEHRA
Team.

I had the opportunity to present the beta version of the VistA
Extensions Hub (with the Extensions Lab, VistA Exchange Center and
VistA Experiences). http://prezi.com/ua5ehwol27ne/vxvistaorg-the-vista-extensions-hub/

We are expanding the scope of vxVistA.org to contain Extensions
information for any type of VistA solution.( I am collecting
information right now, )so if you are an extensions developer please
let me know: (flo...@dssinc.com) (We will provide links to others
VistA community environments)

I will need:
Extension name, overview, highlights, type of license and details
about compatibility with (VistA, OSEHRA, RPMS,OpenVistA, vxVistA and
any other version of VistA currently in use).

Each extension will have its own page with all the details including
Developer contact information. We will include all type of extensions
(Open Source and Commercial).

We are also preparing the webinars schedule for 2012, where we are
planning to present each extension and of course training for VistA
administrators, clinical and administrative users (please let me know
if you are interested on being a presenter)

The VistA Extensions Hub (beta) will be officially presented at HIMSS
Las Vegas - Feb 20 - 24) as well as the webinar schedule.

For Open Source extensions developers we will provide project spaces
and other tools already available in our environment. (we called the
VistA Extensions Lab) We think this will be great complement to the
efforts that OSEHRA is doing. I hope you can use it.

While OSHERA is focused on the core of VistA and related applications
(more technical content) we are focusing our efforts on providing
information and training to VistA Adopters, users, new developers,
etc. I really think that if we have success with a VistA
implementation the whole VistA community will receive the benefits of
that.

For VistA Adoptes we are preparing the VistA Exchange Center and VistA
Experiences where we can exchange best practices, workflows, etc.
(Great idea from Marcie - NC ) and we will add more How to...
webinars.

Last year we did multiple webinars for Physicians, Nurses and new
users. Including great webinars from Greg Kreis (VistA Foundation,
FileMan and Mumps)

Thanks to all of you for your feedback during the VistA Community
Meeting. I think this is a great contribution to the community and a
great support to OSEHRA activities.
Regards,
Fabian Lopez, PMP, CSM
