Hey all,

My son is a freshman in college and taking some computer science classes.  He has looked over my shoulder with mumps for years, and would like to dabble a bit with it.  So he has tried getting a mumps / vistA setup going, with little progress.  The several guides he found on the web seemed to have old dead links etc.  And it's been so long since I started afresh, that I am not sure how best to help him.

What is the best way to get a VistA instance installed on Linux?  And if a full VistA is too difficult, then how to get just GT.M installed?  We tried following this guide: https://www.osehra.org/blog/fis-gtm-now-available-ubuntu-linux-1404-distribution   the apt-get install fis-gtm seemed to work (no errors), but then we couldn't find where it was installed on the disk.  There was not /usr/lib/fis-gtm.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

P.S.  Wish I could have been with everyone at the VCM.   I had some other preexisting commitments that prevented me from attending.

Best wishes...

Sam has just completed an new set of instructions on Hardhats, and there is always the old set of instructions for WorldVistA EHR 2.0 here.

Sam's updated directions:

Or I have a vagrant based installer: github.com/osehra/VistA/tree/master/scripts/install

or docker based installer:
GitHub.com/krmassociatesinc/docker-vista

Which has links to docker hub so you don't have to build the image.

Try /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/fis-gtm/… on a 64-bit Linux system.

AWESOME!  I installed VistA onto a VM on my laptop soon after I lost my Epic related job with a hospital system due to a conflict over something I felt was fraudulent.
I completed some other projects I was working on at home and planned to set up both a Vagrant VM and a Docker image to make installing VistA trivial.  And I was thrilled to find someone else had already done this.

Thanks!!!!!

I wonder if there is a group of people or an organization that would enable people in various locations to put together a complete, well-proven plan and set of best practices for successful implementation and ongoing maintenance of a VistA environment for a health care organization of any size--knowing what equipment to get, what consulting to have in place, employees, plans for disaster recovery, integration with biomed devices, billing, HIEs, performing updates/upgrades, ETL/Reporting, mirroring/shadowing, migration between POC, Testing, Production, DR, Education/Training environments, etc.

Sorry if I am asking an obvious question that everyone knows and one I should already know.  I am new, and perhaps I should wait before getting involved and posting things, but I was pleasantly surprised to know others were involved in doing something I planned to do as a beginner and am just happy to know there is an active community or active communities, plural.

Dan

There are certainly companies like Medsphere and DSS that have implemented VistA at multiple hospitals and therefore almost certainly have their own implementation project management templates and wholesome practices. Other VistA implementations have been one-of projects and I am not aware of any documented templates or wholesome practices that resulted from any.

Smile :-) Astronaut has too many clinically tested and implemented VistA best practices and new software to list here. The Astronaut team has generated a huge number of firsts for VistA. Very recently we are now certified for nationwide lab ordering. This is in addition to our multi-site nationwide eRX capability. Biggest capabilities yet are on the way.

Those commands should not give you a response. You are just telling it where those things are. Type env | grep gtm at the command line and you should seem them.

In my opinion, you're trying to run before you have learned to walk. First get a VistA virtual machine running using Christoper Edwards' installation script (https://github.com/OSEHRA/VistA/blob/master/Documentation/Install/Vagrant.rst). Then attempt to do it all yourself.
