Section 508 (http://www.section508.gov/) requires accessibility for people
with disabilities when the Federal Government develops, procures, maintains
and uses products. If a product does not comply with this legislation, it can
not be used within the federal government.

In addition, section 508 compliance is a desirable goal for all software to
allow use of screen readers, etc.

Any open source software that the VA wishes to consider adopting will have to
pass testing for 508 compliance.

Patrick Sheehan from the 508 compliance section at the Department of Veterans
Affairs Central Office will be presenting an overview of what is necessary for
Department of Veterans Affairs 508 compliance on Wednesday, May 23 at 8:30 PM
EASTERN (UT -4).

The conference call line is not free of charge but has only standard long
distance charges. The conference call line is

1-213-342-3000

Code is 123654#
