Hi all, Just read in the VistA monograph that treatment planning is
done by the Accu-Med system which sounds proprietary. According to the
monograph: 'The VA purchased the Accu-Med Services (AMS) Clinical
Software suite, which has been implemented nationally, with a gateway
interface to import patient data from VistA using standard HL7
messaging. The Clinical Software suite consists of the Minimum Data
Set (MDS) Version 2.0 as defined by CMS, Resident Assessment Protocols
(RAPs) triggered by specific responses to the MDS, multidisciplinary
Care Plans, and electronic transmission of the MDS to the national
database at the Austin Automation Center (AAC). The AAC in turn
utilizes the MDS to produce Resource Utilization Groups (RUG-III) and
Quality Indicator reports.'

Is there a non-proprietary way around this?

This is for nursing homes. There is some work being done in the VA, but it is
not clear if they will develop their own version. There previously was some
software provided by CMS that did the bare bones work and that is enhanced by
vendors. However, CMS is developing a new system (I have not checked on its
status in a while) and I do not know if software will come with it.
