check that XWBTCP (a TCP listener) has started.

Run following command in terminal.

D STRT^XWBTCP(9210)

where 9210 is port number.

Are you using the unlicensed version of Cache? If so, you can't run
Vista. It needs at least 5 licenses to work with very limited
functionality. 10 is good if you plan on development.

I have followed the steps in the links below to install, set up the
environment, start CPRS

http://www.hardhats.org/projects/VistA_Install/Vista_Install.html
http://www.hardhats.org/projects/VistA_Install/CPRSStart12.html

before starting CPRS, i have started the taskman and RPC broker using
the commands,
VISTA>D ^ZTMB

VISTA>D STRT^XWBTCP(9210)

please let me know how to solve this problem.

regarding the license issue:

I have download cache from the following link,
ftp.intersystems.com/pub/cache/cache5SU/ as an anonymous user.).

this is the link suggested to download cache by the installation doc
of vista foia.
http://www.hardhats.org/projects/VistA_Install/Vista_Install.html

guess it has license to work with CPRS.

That's the problem. You can't use the unlicensed version with Vista. I
have tried several times a couple of years ago to be met with
consistent failure.

Something must have changed because I was able to set up a demo system
with trial Cache download a couple of years ago. To make it work you had
to increase some parameter during install....can't remember what it was.
But in any case what you got is very limited in terms of how many
concurrent users it would support.

i am interested with a single user system. (do not require any
concurrent users)

do u suggest me to go with licensed version of cache v5?

Thanks,

Once you started Taskman or the Broker your 1-user license slot was used.  Any telnet or Broker connections after that would be rejected as they would be the 2nd and 3rd user.  Telnet from that Cache system back to itself will work.  Also running CPRS directly on that single-user Cache system will also work.  But you will not be able to connect from another network box.

If you need to set up Cache for use with VistA to test, you can contact Jim Pietila at Intersystems - pie...@intersystems.com. They will give you a 60 day incremental license to test with.

I'm not a vendor or get any type of compensation from Intersystems.  I test both GT.M and Cache with VistA.

Hi All,

I know that this thread is over two years old and has probably been
forgotten. I came across it when searching Google for the same
problem that Hasan had. I imagine that others have done the same. I
found the cause of the problem to be an incorrectly configured NULL
device. The CPRS uses the null device in its operation, the error
being thrown when it was trying to be initialized. Following step 97
of the HardHats instruction (http://www.hardhats.org/projects/
VistA_Install/Vista_Install.html), I configured the NULL device and
that removed the error. The instructions for the NULL device is also
below.

Select DEVICE NAME: NULL
1 NULL NT SYSTEM NALO:
2 NULL-DSM Bit Bucket _NLA0:
CHOOSE 1-2: 1 NULL NT SYSTEM NALO:
NAME: NULL//
LOCATION OF TERMINAL: NT SYSTEM//
Select MNEMONIC:
LOCAL SYNONYM:
$I: NALO:// //./nul
VOLUME SET(CPU):
SIGN-ON/SYSTEM DEVICE: YES// N NO
TYPE: TERMINAL//
SUBTYPE: C-VT100// ^

It is unfortunate you did not end up finding the answer as well.

Rather than doing things the hard way, perhaps you should consider posting
some questions on Hardhats, not just answers. No one person can begin to know
all about VistA and Hardhats is here to help.

The site you reference describes the device setup for Cache only. There are 4
key devices that need to be set up right away as mentioned in the document,
but the setup is not the same for GT.M as it is for Cache on Windows,
obviously.

They are the NULL, CONSOLE, TELNET and HFS devices. Here are sample devices
for GT.M. In addition, making sure that calling the device only gives one
choice for the programs being run helps things go smoothly. That can be done
by renaming devices that come up an a Fileman inquire until only the device
you want to be used is presented.

NUMBER: 39 NAME: NULL
$I: /dev/null SIGN-ON/SYSTEM DEVICE: NO
LOCATION OF TERMINAL: Bit Bucket (GT.M-Unix)
OPEN COUNT: 1
MNEMONIC: GTM-LINUX-NULL
MNEMONIC: NULL
SUBTYPE: P-OTHER TYPE: TERMINAL

NUMBER: 52 NAME: HFS
$I: /tmp/hfs.dat
LOCATION OF TERMINAL: Host File Server (GT.M)
MNEMONIC: HFS
TYPE: HOST FILE SERVER

NUMBER: 41 NAME: CONSOLE
$I: /dev/tty ASK DEVICE: YES
LOCATION OF TERMINAL: Console (GT.M)
MNEMONIC: GTM-LINUX-CONSOLE
MNEMONIC: CONSOLE

NUMBER: 50 NAME: TELNET
$I: /dev/pts/ ASK DEVICE: YES
QUEUING: NOT ALLOWED LOCATION OF TERMINAL: TELNET
ASK HOST FILE: YES OPEN COUNT: 584
MNEMONIC: TELNET
SUBTYPE: C-VT101 TYPE: VIRTUAL TERMINAL
