I wanted to find the date of the last MUG meeting (I am thinking 1999) and noticed there is no link to MUG in Wikipedia from the MUMPS topic.

I've never established a topic in Wikipedia and it doesn't appear to be simple. Anyone with experience want to give it a go so we can collect some of the collective knowledge about MUG and its history before it is gone?

Very good idea! I could try to contribute. I remeber the beginning with Joan Zimmerman (than in St. Louis).

Btw. at that timer there was a St. Louis based Mini-computer, used in Radiology, that had Mumps as operating system. Does anybody remeber it's name?

I am quite sure that the last MUG was indeed in 1999, in San Diego.

I seem to remember that the last MUG was 1996 in Boston, held in conjunction with some other computing event.

Ed, do you remember the most recent MUG-Europe meeting? MUG Germany has been active since recently, two or three years ago.

Btw. MUG-Europe was founded before MUG-Germany, but I do not remember the years.

Best regards, also to Ion Diamond!

I'm afraid I haven't heard much about European gatherings for quite a while. The last I heard was a couple of years ago when MTA-UK disbanded.

#7 1978 was in June, San Francisco, at the Jack Tar Hotel

David Whitten: I probably sent you some conference proceedings on some of these.

I think there was one in Minnesota. I think Ed de Moel was there.

There is a website https://www.mumps.org/. But I get a firefox warning when I try to open it.

I think the first MUG-meeting was organized by Joan Zimmerman in St. Louis. And as far as I remember there was a second meeting there, organized by a radiological institution. A St. Louis based Mini-Computer had Mumps as language of the operating system. I will try to find my travel-reports of the early seventies. I tried not to miss the annual meetings and have been to many.

It is a good idea to cooperate for a Wikipedia Mumps-User-Group site. And I will try to get the data for MUG Europe and MUG-Germany as well.

My first one was number 9 in San Diego.

I remember folks talking about some meetings in Sunny Brook, NY, and
around Bethesda or maybe the MUG office area.

This is Henry Heffernans answer. Thank you Henry! It is very helpful.

Btw.: I found out the name of the computer company in St. Louis that used Mumps as control-language for it's operating-system: Artronix. And the radiological department using it was the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology. I visited them in 1977. The Reisebericht "Zum Mumps-Gebrauch in der Medizin" is on my website wgiere.de see 'Publikationen' and click 'Reiseberichte' (It is all German, sorry!)

Best regards

Wolfgang

PS: Does anybody know of Joan Zimmerman and what she did after Tandem?

Wolfgang, it is good to hear from you! I pray and hope that you and your family are well and safe from the COVID virus.
I was not involved with MUG at the beginning. Richard Walters was one of the early leaders, and he was the one who asked me to join MUG to  help when it was about to become incorporated. I am sure I have no materials of its initial meetings before I became involved.

If you are doing something on the history, I can probably contribute some additional information. Let me know what you want. I attended only a few of the annual meetings.

As you may know, Robert Morris University's Information Sciences School took an early interest in teaching courses on MUMPS and educated many software engineers that populated the MUG. The directoprof that program was Fred Kohun, who is still on the faculty there. Valerie Powewll, who is Emeritus, began an initiative to develop the history of MUMPS and col;elected many artifacts  of the early years of MUG. Dr. Kohun wrote his PhD thesis on the MUMPS movement and is the best source I know of at present.
