I am forwarding this to you, the greater VistA community, from Dave Bolduc's
friend, Don Ford, who sent it to an email address provided on the WorldVistA
web site for those wishing to contact us. I know some of us had learned of
his death but not of the circumstances.
I have made Don aware of the Hardhats mailing list should he wish to view it
and let him know that his email would be posted there.

The VistA Community,
I wanted to let the VistA Community know of the untimely death of David
Bolduc. Dave was the author of VPE (Victory Programmer Environment) and
had been a dedicated programmer with the VA until his retirement on 1
Oct 1999. He was a confirmed bachelor. After retiring, he purchased an
Airstream travel trailer and spent his winters in Seminole, FL to escape
the cold and summers in Asheville, NC to escape the heat. He was an
avid tennis player and kept himself very fit riding his bicycle to get
around. A couple of years ago, he purchased a motorcycle to get around
so he wouldn't need to use his tow vehicle to get around town. I always
knew him to be very safety conscience.
I worked with Dave at the VA in St Louis. He was such a great guy! I
kept in touch with him since he retired and visited him at his winter
quarters whenever possible. After sending him a couple of emails and
getting no response recently, I tried calling his phone only to find it
was no longer in service. When I called the RV park in Seminole I
learned he had been killed while driving his motorcycle on Aug 5th.
Below is his obituary and a summary of the news of the tragic accident
that took his life.
He's being greatly missed by all those who knew him. If you knew Dave,
please visit his online memorial and leave a note.
Don Ford,
Dave's friend

The Highway Patrol charged Eric Scott Gentle, 24, of Highlander Road,
with misdemeanor death by vehicle on Tuesday, Aug 5th after he turned in
front of motorcyclist David Bolduc on Warren Wilson Road.
The accident happened when Gentle, traveling north on Warren Wilson Road
in a 1995 Buick, made a left turn onto Riceville Road into the path of
the motorcycle, according to the patrol. Bolduc, riding south on Warren
Wilson Road on a 2009 Honda, could not avoid a collision with the car.
Bolduc, a 66-year-old retiree who spent his summers in Asheville, was
ejected from his motorcycle and died from his injuries.
The charge was based on findings by investigators that Gentle failed to
yield the right-of-way.
"He says he thought the motorcyclist was speeding, but that conflicts
with witness statements." "Both witness statements say the motorcyclist
appeared to be going a normal speed."
Born in Glens Falls, N.Y., Bolduc was an Air Force veteran who served in
Vietnam. He retired after a career as an accountant and computer
programmer with the Veteran's Administration. He lived in Asheville
during the summer and Seminole, Fla. in the winter, said his sister,
Patricia Desmond of Hickory.
"He was a quiet, unassuming person, but he was fun to be around,"
Desmond said. "He was just a good guy."
