Pushti,
could you review the methods you used to learn MUMPS programming and FileMan basics?
It might be helpful to some of the other members of the mailing list.

To my knowledge, it is very rare that VistA enforces a particular workflow, because it has to support a wide variety of hospitals from very small to very large. That doesn't mean that VistA doesn't have a set of actions/operations that have to be done to record patient care, just that some of them might be done by the same person at one site and each step might be done by one of a group of people at a larger site.

Are you thinking of using HL7 to coordinate your own system with VistA or using Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs) ?

Hi Everyone

I am new to Vista and closely looking its capabilities and features , I am working as an technical lead in an organization where we are switching to VistA . In past few months of my research I have gone through mumps programming and studied Fileman basics .

We are able to install and use VistA as standalone with CPRS . But to meet our requirement we are looking for some customizations , in actual we need to integrate our Applications with VistA.

Currently we are working on radiology but we need some direction in order to proceed in right direction, we expect some support for gripping the work flow of radiology in VistA.

Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

Pushti

Thanks David..

I have gone through Mumps Programming Manual by Kevin C O Kane and fileman from <VA Fileman V.22.0 Getting Started / http://www.hardhats.org/fileman/u1/index.htm> , I have installed cache single user version on my PC and compiled few of the mumps programs there .

At present I am deeply looking into the capabilities of VistA in Radiology , that’s why I want to understand the work flow of Radiology section , I am aware that VistA has something or the other for every Hospital / Clinic whether they re big or small , but I want to know about how the basic operations of radiology are being dealt In VistA , is there any reference material for this where we can get some more knowledge about how VistA is taking care of Radiology and how we can use it.

Regards,

Pushti

Pushti, I don't wish to take anything away from Kevin's book,
but if you want a more complete dealing with MUMPS and Caché ,
you may wish to look at:

"Caché ObjectScripts and MUMPS" ($39.95) using the link:
The discount code of 7849H88Y will give a $4.00 discount.
Or it is on Amazon (but no discount)

You need to look at the manuals in the VistA Documentation Library, http://www.va.gov/VDL if you have not done it already.

Pushti,

I am afraid that there is not as much knowledge about the radiology features of VistA on this board.  Here in the USA, this is tightly regulated as a "medical product", and some of the software of VistA has not been released.  This question comes up every several months.  Search the board for prior discussions.

The bad news is that you might just have to read the manuals on installation of the various packages, and ask more specific questions.  And I will apologize in advance for the manuals.  Most of them are written with the understanding that the reader is already a VistA expert (at least in certain areas).  They are like drinking from a firehose.
